Forn De N'Aina (Arg)

After 59 games of football we came down to the most important of them all. Game 60 – The 2017 Mallorca Fives Cup Final. The two teams set to do battle for the honour and glory of victory were Valecuatro and Forn De N'aina.

The two teams had met earlier in the day all the way back in Round 2 of Group B. Valecuatro won that contest 4-2 on the way to finishing second in the group. Both teams finished on 9 points in Group B with Valecuatro finishing higher on goal difference but both teams had obviously done enough to reach the Cup. In the knock-out phase Valecuatro had a superb win over defending champions Mariano FC before defeating Broxelona A, 5-1. Forn De N'aina had a similarly tough route to the Cup Final defeating FC Maroon (who had not yet conceded) 1-0 and then Blue Collar Revolution (with 6 wins from 6) on penalties.

With the game underway it was pretty even with neither team on top for significant periods in the opening exchanges. We then got a goal that changed the pattern of the game. Pascal Moreno Cortes took his tally for the tournament to 9 goals when he put Valecuatro 1-0 ahead. Forn De N'aina came back strongly. They put on a period of sustained pressure which resulted in numerous corners but the Valecuatro defence stood firm. Forn De N'aina for all their pressure didn't really look like scoring but Alexis Ferreira came close just before the break shooting narrowly wide.

The second half kicked off with Valecuatro still leading 1-0. The hope for Forn De N'aina was that Valecuatro were yet to keep a clean sheet in the tournament – a strange stat seeing that they had a good quality goalkeeper. Forn De N'aina had lots of possession without looking overly dangerous. Valecuatro seemed content to soak up the pressure and look for the counter attack.

Two quickfire goals then sealed the game. Antonio Lobo Blanco doubled the Valecuatro lead. Although Forn De N'aina almost pulled it back to 2-1 soon after they didn't and were punished when Pascal Moreno Cortes fired home on the break for 3-0.

It was a hugely important goal – it effectively sealed the title for his Valecuatro team and it also meant he would be the top goalscorer for the tournament with an impressive haul of 10 goals.

We offer our consolations to Forn De N'aina who were very good on the day with some memorable wins along the way.

Thank you to all the teams who competed. We hope to see you all again at a tournament very soon.

The ultimate honour and the glory for the 2017 Mallorca Fives goes to….

….. Valecuatro!

Many congratulations on a superb victory on an amazing day of tournament action.
