The
biggest game of Group B's final round of fixtures
would be The Rain Dragons versus Paralytic Athletic.
Knowing that third place would be good enough
to qualify, these two teams could have played
out a draw and ensured they would both go through.
However, in true sporting style, the game was
not played in that style – both teams were here
to win.
A
win would give the victor a very real chance
of winning Group B (subject to the Tinnided
& Tobacco result) and with it an easier
draw in the Cup Quarter-Finals. There was still
much to play for alongside honour and pride.
The
game was delicately poised at half-time as we
were all square at 1-1. Dan Martin was on target
with his third of the day for The Rain Dragons.
Alexander Wood also scored his third of the
tournament for Paralytic Athletic.
The
last round of games was scheduled to kick-off
at the same time but over the course of the
day the various pitches move out of sync which
meant that JUBI Titans match had finished on
Pitch B and they moved over to Pitch C to see
the conclusion of this game. They will have
been disappointed to see the game at 1-1 which
would have knocked out JUBI Titans.
As
the game reached its final stages there was
to be a winner. Alexander Wood added to his
first half goal to spark wild celebrations not
only from the Paralytic Athletic squad but also
from JUBI Titans on the touchline. Spare a thought
for The Rain Dragons though whose chances of
Cup qualification had just been extinguished.
Congratulations
to Paralytic Athletic (and JUBI Titans) for
qualifying for the Cup.
