With their first games under their belts it was Round 2 for all the teams in Group A and time to settle in to the tournament.

Always Short were 1 of 4 groups appearing in Budapest that played in last year's Krakow Trophy. The 2016 Krakow Trophy was their debut in our tournaments. They had a tough start to life with a 4-1 defeat to Poland's FC Funtime and a 4-2 defeat to Slovakia's GSF Drunkerz. They then picked up a maiden European win with a 2-1 victory over Fleet Street Elite 1. A narrow 1-0 defeat followed to the group winners (Spider Mans & Great Hawk) before a 1-1 draw against Poland's Tea Time.

They finished 5th of 6 teams to qualify for the Plate. In the Quarter-Finals they secured a 3-1 win over 2009 Valencia Fives champions 9 Nana Budds. They went into the Semi-Final in good form but their tournament ended to eventual Plate winners Misfits FC (4-2).

The English team started off with a solid 0-0 draw in Round 1 but they found life against Racing Literki FC much more difficult. Racing Literki had lost their opener but responded in style here. Michal Przybylski scored their first goal in eurofootballfives.com tournament action and set them on their way. From there they never looked back. Kamil Bieganski made it 2-0 before half-time before Fernando Ballester added a second half double to complete a 4-0 win.

Next up in Group A was Budapest Celtic Hoops versus East Compton Eagles on Pitch C. Both teams were looking for their first win of the day having both been involved in 0-0 draws in Round 1.

The “Hoops” made their first appearance at last year's tournament as Budapest Celtic changed their Lions, Tigers and Pumas names to Hoops, Whites and Greens. The Hoops team did not fare too well last year finishing 6th in Group B but they had a much changed squad this year. Only 3 of their 9-man squad was in the Hoops last year with 1 player recruited from the Greens (runners-up last year) and the rest debutants.

The local team scored their first goal of the competition when Andris Szabo gave Budapest Celtic Hoops a 1-0 first half lead. Jason Clowes, one of the Hoops players from 12 months ago, added a second goal with another of 2016's survivors, Daniel Harasztos, adding a third.

From an East Compton Eagles perspective there was something to shout about as Brendan McLoughlin scored his team's first of the day. Sadly for Brendan and the other Eagles it proved to be a mere consolation in the context of this fixture.

To complete Round 2 we had Spider Mans & Great Hawk versus Red Light Runners. We barely touched on Red Light Runners' history in Round 1, so here is their CV in more detail;

2008 Krakow Trophy: Topped Group C with a 100% record and a goal difference of +10 from 3 games. A sensational 4-0 Quarter-Final win against the defending champions, Northern Monkeys, quickly established them as favourites. A 3-1 win over AFC Politico in the Semi-Finals preceded a 4-1 win over Complex in the Final. They became the first and still the only team to represent Scotland to win a eurofootballfives.com event.

2008 Barca Fives: They breezed to victory in Group C with 4 wins from 4 scoring 26 goals and conceding just 2 in the process. In the Cup Quarter-Finals they defeated Hanson Vets 1-0 to set-up a Semi-Final versus Uxama which they won 2-1. They looked set for another title until Rapid Bosco Navas upset them 2-1 in the Final. Stephen Doherty (11) and Declan Doherty (9) were the tournament's top two goalscorers on the day.

2016 Barcelona Fives: They made a sensational start with 7 wins out of 7 in the group phase. They bagged 17 goals for the expense of just 2 as they set-up a Quarter-Final against Elcombe Old Boys. It was somewhat of a surprise to see them exit the competition 1-0 as Elcombe Old Boys went on to lift the title.

Red Light Runners were one of the favourites for the title and an opening game win supported that. They continued on their merry way here as they took a first half lead thanks to Cory Gallager and were seemingly on their way to another victory.

Spider Mans & Great Hawk had other ideas though as Sam A'Court ran in their first of the day late in the game. The goal earned the Great Hawks a 1-1 draw – their second draw of the tournament as the points were shared.
