Up
next in Group A was East Compton Eagles versus
Spider Mans & Great Hawk. East Compton Eagles
results were on a downward spiral having drawn
their opener (0-0) before a 3-1 loss and then
a 5-0 loss. They needed to arrest the slide
and get some momentum behind them.
Spider
Mans & Great Hawk were the draw specialists
in the group with 3 from 3 so far. If they could
finish with 2 wins against the two teams below
them in the group standings then they had a
good chance of reaching the Cup competition.
The Great Hawk's undefeated record was under
threat in this fixture though after Brendan
McLoughlin's second goal of the tournament gave
East Compton Eagles a precious first half lead.
They retained the lead until the break.
David
Coppard in the Eagles goal had kept a clean
sheet in their first game but since conceded
8 goals. At 1-0 up, he and his defence had something
to cling on to and they knew another clean sheet
would see them on their way to a first win of
the day. They defended admirably and also posed
a threat on the break.
Spider
Mans & Great Hawk would not have a wanted
a draw before the start as they sought to end
their run of draws with a win. However, as they
entered the final stages of this a goal down
they probably would have taken a fourth consecutive
goal. The equaliser was not forthcoming though
as Coppard and his defensive counterparts kept
their second clean sheet of the tournament.
Congrats to East Compton Eagles for their opening
win.
