We began Round 4 with Budapest Celtic Hoops versus Racing Literki FC. In the battle for the Group A title Budapest Celtic Hoops had the opportunity to strike first and put points on the board before their rivals Red Light Runners would take to the pitch. Racing Literki were also in the title race though as a win for them would make it a three-team tie at the top on 7 points.

Budapest Celtic Hoops had started quickly in their previous two games racing into a 2-0 lead by half-time in both their previous games. The Racing Literki FC defence was proving to be stiffer opposition. Bartlomiej Jedrysiak in the Racing Literki FC goal had kept two clean sheets in his previous two games and only conceded one goal all day. At the break, he was 50% of the way to a hat-trick of clean sheets. Budapest Celtic Hoops also kept it tight at the back and it was 0-0 at half-time.

We were to see goals in the second half – two of them in fact. Kamil Bieganski scored his second of the tournament for Racing Literki FC whilst Nandor Vakulya was on target for Budapest Celtic Hoops. Final score, 1-1.

Up next in Group A was East Compton Eagles versus Spider Mans & Great Hawk. East Compton Eagles results were on a downward spiral having drawn their opener (0-0) before a 3-1 loss and then a 5-0 loss. They needed to arrest the slide and get some momentum behind them.

Spider Mans & Great Hawk were the draw specialists in the group with 3 from 3 so far. If they could finish with 2 wins against the two teams below them in the group standings then they had a good chance of reaching the Cup competition. The Great Hawk's undefeated record was under threat in this fixture though after Brendan McLoughlin's second goal of the tournament gave East Compton Eagles a precious first half lead. They retained the lead until the break.

David Coppard in the Eagles goal had kept a clean sheet in their first game but since conceded 8 goals. At 1-0 up, he and his defence had something to cling on to and they knew another clean sheet would see them on their way to a first win of the day. They defended admirably and also posed a threat on the break.

Spider Mans & Great Hawk would not have a wanted a draw before the start as they sought to end their run of draws with a win. However, as they entered the final stages of this a goal down they probably would have taken a fourth consecutive goal. The equaliser was not forthcoming though as Coppard and his defensive counterparts kept their second clean sheet of the tournament. Congrats to East Compton Eagles for their opening win.

The only thing left to settle in Round 4 was the not-so-small matter of Red Light Runners versus Always Short. At the start of Round 5 these teams sat in 1st position and 5th position respectively. Red Light Runners had seen Budapest Celtic Hoops leapfrog above them but they could regain top spot with a win here. In fact a draw would be enough to see them go top courtesy of goal difference.

Always Short would not have known at kick-off on Pitch B that they were slipping to the foot of the table as East Compton Eagles were on their way to victory on Pitch A. Always Short would need a win to avoid being in 6th place at the end of Round 4. If they were aware of Red Light Runners record of 16 wins from 17 group games in eurofootballfives.com they might have feared for their chances.

The game went with the form book in the opening period as Red Light Runners forged a 2-0 lead thanks to strikes from Stephen Doherty – which took his overall eurofootballfives.com goals tally to 32 goals. In the second half Ian Ward added his second in as many games and Declan Doherty also got on the scoresheet (his 24 th in eurofootballfives.com competition).

It was a battling performance from Always Short but in the face of such high class opposition it was one that fell short. Not only were Red Light Runners red hot in front of goal with 9 in two games but they were tight at the back with James O'Brien keeping his third clean sheet in four games.

The win sent Red Light Runners back to the top whereas Always Short dropped to 6th.
