As we entered the final Round of games we had a whole host of potential outcomes on who would win Group C, who would qualify for the Cup, the Plate and the Wooden Spoon. There was still everything to play for as the final round of games all kicked off simultaneously.

On Pitch A we had Csabagyongye of Hungary versus L'Albiceleste of France. The French were the only team to be guaranteed Cup football and only needed a draw to win the Group C title. The Hungarian team could join their opposition in the Cup with a victory but anything less would mean Plate football.

It didn't start well for Csabagyongye as Thibault Kerouredan gave his side an early lead. The French could practically taste glory and all they had to do was hold on now for the title. Goalkeeper Mickael Martin kept a clean sheet and the game finished 1-0. L'Albiceleste had taken 13 from 15 points and fully earned their place in the Cup.

For Csabagyongye, they would finish 4 th and play in the Plate competition. It was the first time they had failed to qualify for the Cup in eurofootballfives.com competition.

On Pitch B, Budapest Celtic Pumas met ACE & The Swagmen. The Pumas would play in the Plate regardless of the result here as if they won the best they could do was finish 4th and with defeat if they finished 6th they would still be the highest ranked 6th placed team. For ACE & The Swagmen only a win was good enough – a defeat or draw would leave them short of Intermore FC's 2 points in Group B.

Things didn't look good for the Swagmen when the Pumas' Romeo Loniszeki made it 1-0. In the second half Peti Dosa made it 2-0 and the Pumas were looking good for that 4th placed finish. ACE & The Swagmen had nothing left in the tank and it finished 2-0. There would be some dubious “consolation” for them as they would take the day's Wooden Spoon title.

That left us with The Mersey White Sox versus Exeter Gently. Now, we had a fascinating situation arising as both teams had identical points, identical goal difference, identical goals scored and, of course, if this was a draw would have an ideal head-to-head record so we would need penalties to see who finished 2nd and third but both would make the Cup should Csabgyongye not win. If either team could claim victory they would finish second and qualify for the Cup automatically. A defeat would mean the Plate given Stanis Mates and It's Back superior 3rd placed records in Group A and B.

The first half came and went with the scores level at 0-0. We are not sure whether the teams knew or not but Csabagyongye were losing and a draw would probably suffice but we had a really open second period with both teams trying to find a winner. The winning goal proved elusive though and we would need a penalty shoot-out. This was only the second time in eurofootballfives.com history that two teams had totally identical group records and the first since the 2007 Prague Trophy.

Penalties would decide who finished second and how they would slot into the afternoon's Cup draw. Exeter Gently would take the first spot-kick but it was Mersey White Sox's ‘keeper Gary McDonald who would be the hero saving Marc Scott's effort. Daniel Qureshi took full advantage to make it 1-0. Nathan Anderson then failed with his penalty giving Anthony Curley the opportunity to secure 2nd position which he did with aplomb. An amazing way to finish Group C!
