Group C was really hotting up as we entered Round 5. Match 10 of the group was an all-Hungarian encounter between Budapest Celtic Pumas and Csabagyongye. Draws had halted the Pumas progress and they needed the win the most and see them rise into 3rd. Csabagyongye could join the Mersey White Sox and L'Albiceleste at the top of the table if they could take victory.

Both teams had in fact drawn their last games and were treading water a little in the table and this result would not have helped them much. The two teams were unable to produce a goal and the Pumas had their second successive goal-less draw. The result kept them in 5th with games running out.

Csabagyongye moved into outright 3rd place but it was a missed opportunity with the 3 other teams around them having a game in hand.

The next game was a clash of the titans as the top two came face to face. The Mersey White Sox of England met L'Albiceleste of France with the winners guaranteed a place in the Cup. A draw would not be a bad result but leave the two teams vulnerable.

With the game underway it was obvious neither team would settle for a draw and were looking to win the game. Fateh Bekhouche opened the scoring for L'Albiceleste with his third goal of the day and when he scored his fourth of the day to make it 2-0 they had one foot in the Cup competition and were in pole position to take the Group C title.

The Mersey White Sox were unable to hit back and it left them in 2nd position looking over their shoulders at the chasing pack.

One team in that chasing pack was Exeter Gently who could draw level with The Mersey White Sox with victory against ACE & The Swagmen. The latter were hoping to claim their first points and a win would close the gap on the Pumas and give them every chance of Plate qualification.

It started off well for The Swagmen when James Larcombe handed them a 1-0 half-time lead. Exeter Gently couldn't afford defeat here to make the Cup and they came storming back in the second period when Ben Wharfe, Nathan Anderson and Wharfe again turned things round. ACE & The Swagmen were not out of it though with Dan Burkwood's second of the day but, alas for them, it was to prove a consolation as Exeter Gently dug out a fine 3-2 victory. Close but no cigar for ACE & The Swagmen.
