It
was 2nd versus 3rd at the start of Round 3 with
a Hungarian derby – Budapest Celtic Tigers taking
on Stani's Mates. For the winners there was a
chance of outright top and for the losers it would
be lost ground on a close rival. A draw would
not be the worst result but would involve the
teams treading water and giving opportunities
to the other teams in Group A.
It
was advantage to the Tigers first off when Bruno
gave them the lead. They were on their way to
another victory and as the Tigers were yet to
concede on the day thus far it was going to be
difficult for Stanis Mates to get back into it.
With
the game delicately poised the next goal was always
going to be crucial but the goal never came and
it was Budapest Celtic Tigers who claimed all
3 points. They now sat on 9 with a 3 point lead
over their nearest rivals (albeit having played
a game extra at this stage). Stanis Mates would
remain in 3rd place and Cup qualification still
very much a possibility.
Ujpest
RK were next on the fixture list and no sign
– I think it is fair to say we'd given up on
them for the day now. It was the turn of DYDDFC
to collect the 3-0 win and they were solidly
placed in mid-table with two games to go.
To
complete Round 3 was ABC United versus Aston Carter
FC. The Romanian team had looked hugely impressive
when they picked up their first victory and would
no doubt be favourites to make it two out of two
and get some momentum going. Aston Carter FC were
still looking for their first points but were
no pushovers with their defeats narrow ones.
Aston
Carter FC played hugely well in this one and were
very much in the game throughout. They defended
well and whilst ABC United had much of the possession
the English team was looking dangerous especially
in the air.
ABC
United took a first-half lead through Mihai Mihalache
which gave them a slim lead at the break. They
could never quite get the cushion of the second
goal but managed to keep the opposition out at
the back and therefore made it 3 wins out of 3.
Aston Carter remained down in 5th and in need
of their luck to change.
