ABC United had to sit out Round 1 but they were in action on the field of play in Round 2. The team was making its debut and was the first team in eurofootballfives.com tournament history to represent Romania. They must have been pleased they took the 12 hour drive to Budapest as they began their campaign with a victory against DYDDFC.

 

The English team had earned a solid draw in Round 1 but were less than solid in this one without doing too much wrong – their opponents were just first class. Ciprian Mozacu got the ball rolling with his team's first international goal. Traian Iomut Alecu made it 2-0 before Bogdan Dragos added a third. It was only half-time and there was to be further damage in the second period with Dragos scored his second of the game. Robert Florin Matei wrapped up the game with a fifth and ABC United were top of the table. It was a tough game for DYDDFC but they still had plenty of time to recover in the context of the group.

 
 
 

In the next game we had two teams looking for their first victory of the day. Stanis Mates had made a solid start by picking up a point in their opening fixture but hoped they would not follow the same result as DYDDFC in their second game. Aston Carter were looking to avenge opening game defeat.

 

With the game underway it was Stanis Mates who struck the opening blow when Peter Hegedus found the net. It was a lead they were to hold until the break and also to hold until full-time as they kept their second clean sheet of the day. They moved into 2nd place, at least for a short while, on 4 points. Aston Carter had competed well without reward and that Group of Death tag looked like it was coming back to haunt them – pure luck of the draw we promise you!

 
 
 

Still no sign of Ujpest RK so another 3-0 walkover win went to their scheduled opponents. This time the beneficiaries were Budapest Celtic Tigers who moved on to 6 points to join ABC United at the top.
