We began Round 3 of Group C with BBA Veterans versus Rapid B Pavas. On paper this looked like a tough game to call. The two teams were locked together in the middle of the table with 3 points each.

BBA Veterans most recent performance in our events was at the 2021 Krakow Trophy. They opened up with three superb victories. 1-0 against Alea Iacta Est (2022 Krakow Veterans champions), 6-1 against Luffs and then 1-0 against FC Foreigntina. Defeat in the final group game decider (4-1 to Lanky Londoners) meant they finished 2nd but still qualified for the Cup. They went out 2-0 in the Semi-Finals to eventual champions Banerka.

Group C was looking like the teams were all quite closely matched and goals were at a premium but we had seen goals in every fixture…..until now. It was a second successive clean sheet for Rapid B Pavas who had now taken 4 points from 6. For BBA Veterans it was a good result to put defeat against L'Albiceleste behind them. In the context of the table it kept these teams mid-table. The two teams above them had the chance to extend their lead at the top.

L'Albiceleste came into Round 3 in second place with ambitions of qualifying for the Cup. They had the maximum 6 points from 6 and were yet to concede. Stand-in goalkeeper Fateh Bekhouche was doing a great job for his team.

The French team are the joint fourth most successful team in eurofootballfives.com history with 3 tournament wins – the 2013 Mallorca Fives, the 2016 Riga Tournament and the 2017 Barcelona Fives. If they could go on and take today's title they would join FC Mahou and Olympic Phil Babb on 4 tournament wins in joint 2nd and just one behind the all-time greats, CIS Committee of Belarus on 5 titles.

They were up against the team above them in the table. Norfolk N Chance were top of the table with 3-2 and 3-0 wins. They certainly looked like they had goals in them which could well make the crucial difference in this league. However, for the first time today they were unable to breach their opponent's defence. Fateh Bekhouche kept his third consecutive clean sheet of the day.

At the other end, Cedric Castarede made it 3 goals in 3 games and his strike meant L'Albiceleste kept up their 100% record at the start of Group C.

We now turned our attention to the two teams at the foot of the table. They found themselves at least 4 points adrift of the teams above them. The loser of this game could well see themselves cut totally adrift at the foot of the table. For the winner though, they would be back in the mix and challenging for the Plate and potentially the Cup qualification places.

Littleborough FC were the team to make the initial breakthrough with Harry Beninson scoring his team's first goal in European competition. The signs were ominous for Polonia Limerick at this stage but they struck back. Dominik Olczak had the honour of scoring his team's first goal in a eurofootballfives.com game and levelled the game at 1-1.

Polonia Limerick with the wind in their sails then nudged ahead at 2-1 thanks to a goal from Edward Przekwas. The next goal in this game was going to be crucial – could Littleborough FC recover to level themselves or would Polonia Limerick put the game to bed.

It was the latter as Dominik Olczak scored his second of the game to complete a fine 3-1 win for the Polish team.
