We began Round 4 with a top of the table clash. We had two teams on the maximum 9 points with only goal difference separating Sharks and EMC French Nuts. For one of these teams, or maybe both, their 100% record would be lost at the full-time whistle in this game.

Although EMC French Nuts were on debut in our events they had a very experienced player in their ranks – Richard Leibovici. He has appeared for another French side (World Pinteur aka Las Zacarenas and Los Froggies del Patron). Earlier this year at the 2022 Mallorca Fives he appeared in a Cup QF but the zenith of that team's achievements was a Cup Final appearance at the 2016 Lisbon Tournament.

Based on their start, it could be another Cup Final for Richard Leibovici but Sharks had other ideas. Before this game they were now unbeaten in 7 group games winning 6 in a row. That statistic was shortly to become unbeaten in 8 group games winning 7 in a row. It was a remarkable run that showed no signs of stopping even against high class opponents like EMC French Nuts.

Captain Roel Renken opened his personal account in the first half to send his team into a 1-0 half-time lead. Tom Frumerman had been kept quiet in Round 2 and Round 3 but he was amongst the goals again in Round 4 as his second half strike secured the victory for Sharks, 2-0.

Argon'ze's most recent Barcelona Fives appearance was at the 2018 editions of the tournament. They did pretty well in the group phase as they finished in second place in the table behind 2015 & 2021 champions Club Esportiu de Llefia. They secured 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat from their 5 games to qualify for the Cup competition. They drew 1-1 with Red Light Runners in the QF and progressed via penalties. They went out in the Semi-Finals to AC Mazi 1996 – an outstanding Greek team.

Today, with a much changed team from 2018, they had found Group A pretty tough. They had lost 4-2 and 2-0 to the top two teams so they had certainly not been outclassed. Round 4 of Group A proved to be their chance to sign. They were upagainst a CBT FC who had begun with a win but had since experienced two defeats. Losing momentum in these events can be a hard habit to break just as winning momentum can see teams riding a crest of a wave.

There was only one goal in it during the first half – Ali Daouadi scored it, his second of the tournament. After the break Mathieu Schincariol scored his second and third of the day to put his team in control. Guillermo Santamaria Juesas claimed Argon'ze A's fourth goal as they were en route to all 3 points.

CBT FC had the final say though as Chandos Hoskins made it 4-1 but it proved to be a mere consolation.

The only thing left to settle in Round 4 was FC Yol versus RAF Boulmer. On paper this looked like it could be a home win. FC Yol were chasing a third successive victory that would put them in second place in the table on goal difference if they could win by two or more.

RAF Boulmer's form had been up and down. A slow start with two opening defeats before a narrow 1-0 defeat to the league leaders last time out. Given their record in Gdansk, fifth placed in the table seemed to be a false position. There was further evidence of this when Reece Younie put RAF Boulmer 1-0 up in the first half. It was a lead they would maintain until half-time and a goal that ended FC Yol's run of 9 goals without reply.

The second half proved to be a different story. Dan Trevor equalized for FC Yol and he added another to put his team ahead at 2-1. It took his tournament tally for the day to 4. The comeback was complete when Cash Radford made it 3-1 with his fifth strike of the tournament. Both Dan Trevor and Cash Radford were well in the mix for the golden boot award at this stage of the tournament.

More importantly, the 3 points for FC Yol moved them up to second position and Cup qualification was very much in their own hands.
