At the start of Round 3, we had a superb game in store. RAF Boulmer versus Sharks. Both these teams possessed a 100% winning record today – one a cherished 100% win record, the other 100% loss record. It was a genuine surprise to see RAF Boulmer at the foot of the table after their exploits in Gdansk. A game against Sharks was probably not the opponents they would have chosen to turn their form around.

However, the English team were certainly competitive in this match which just goes to show the fine margins that exist sometimes between a team in first and a team in sixth. It was perhaps that cutting edge that separated the two teams and Sharks had it in the first half here with a solitary goal from Savvas Effhydridar separating the two teams.

The second half was a stalemate as Sharks were unable to extend that lead but RAF Boulmer were unable to find that equalizer they needed. It meant the final result went with the form book although it maybe didn't tell the whole story of the game.

Next up we had EMC French Nuts versus Argon'ze A. It was France versus France.

Argon'ze made their debut at the 2016 Barcelona Fives. They were drawn in the 8-team Group C and made a very solid start with two draws including a 0-0 against the eventual champions in their opening fixture. They then struggled with three defeats before a strong finish. They won their final two games (both 1-0) to finish in 5th position. It meant they qualified for the Trophy knock-out phase where they departed at the Quarter-Final stage due to a 4-1 defeat to Spanish side Bolivar.

This game was very similar to the previous match on Pitch A in the sense that we had a team with a 100% win record against a team looking for their first points of the day. Once again it proved to be a game that went with the form book but the match remained competitive.

In fact it was a goal in each half for EMC French Nuts that proved to be the difference. Richard Leibovici scored both taking his tournament haul to three goals. It was a second clean sheet for Thomas Farin as EMC French Nuts had conceded just one in the tournament so far. EMC French Nuts were looking strong, 2-0.

So far in Round 3 we had seen the two teams at the top defeat the two teams at the bottom. Next up was going to be a pivotal game for the two teams in the middle of the table at the midway point of their group campaigns. Both FC Yol and CBT FC had 1 win and 1 loss under their belts. A win here would see the victors keep tabs on the leaders above them and keep hopes of a Barcelona Fives title alive. Defeat would see the loser 6 points adrift of top spot with only another 6 points on offer. Neither team would really want a draw – whilst clearly better than a defeat it would leave them both marooned in the middle of the table.

FC Yol were carrying the momentum of a 5-0 win into this game and they continued their good form. They edged a close first half to go into the break 1-0 up. In the second half they eased away from their opponents and turned 1-0 at half-time into 3-0 at full-time. Cash Radford was amongst the goals again making it 4 in 2 for him. There was also a brace for Dan Trevor in the second period.

FC Yol were now absolutely flying – they had 2 clean sheets in a row and had now scored 9 goals without reply in a little over 2 games.

It was disappointment for CBT FC but they still had a couple of games to go to potentially reach the Cup. Being one of the best third placed finishers seemed to be their most likely route and they would need to catch FC Yol…no easy task so it seemed given the form of the men in Villareal shirts.
