The
first ever Trophy Final in eurofootballfives.com
history took place in Berlin earlier this year
and it was a dramatic affair as Hertha Beerlin
versus FC Cobaltslautern went all the way to penalties.
Could FC Dad and Sporting Abeergut serve us up
something similar?
We
certainly got late drama in this one as Sporting
Abeergut established a 3-1 lead with a very special
mention needing to go to their chief marksman,
Matt Johnson. Not only did he secure the honour
of scoring a hat-trick in a European final but
it took his tally on the day to 8 goals in 7 games
– a fine return. David Crewdson was on the scoresheet
for FC Dad but it looked like Sporting Abeergut
were on their way to glory.
Stuart
Leslie changed all that when late on he left his
position in goal and turned in a second goal for
FC Dad to reduce arrears 3-2. FC Dad then put
on a great late rally to try and force and equalizer
and send the game into penalties. It was a frantic
end to the Trophy Final but Sporting Abeergut's
defence had enough in the tank to ensure they
would not have to go through the lottery of penalties.
When the final whistle blew it was they who could
raise their arms aloft in celebration.
Our
commiserations go to FC Dad who collect Runners
Up medals and we look forward to seeing them return
to action in Lisbon next year where maybe the
medals they pick up will be of the winning variety.
For
today though, we present you the 2012 Valencia
Fives Trophy Winners – many congratulations to
Sporting Abeergut.
