Round 4 of Group A began with Bristol Bridge against Team Also Ran. The two teams were currently in 5th and 6th place but a win for either would put them back in the mix in Group A for a place in the Plate competition. Defeat would almost certainly mean missing out on the Plate and playing in the Trophy – a draw would not be a great deal of use for either team.

It was Team Also Ran who drew first blood as Lorcan Aherne struck in the first half to give the Irish team the lead. Bristol Bridge were up against it now in the second period but in Lee Roberts had a man who knew where the goal was and for the third successive game he found the back of the net.

Lee Roberts goal would not be enough to earn his team some points though as goals from Paul Torsney (second in as many games) and Eoin Concannon meant that it would be Team Also Ran who claimed victory, 3-1.

On the balance of play over the four games thus far you can't deny that Team Also Ran had deserved a win for their efforts. Bristol Bridge remained in 6th place.

Next up was a game that should have been one to savour. Unbeaten Atletico Nacional and Luminy Wolves came head to head in what was effectively the Group A title decider. Both teams had 100% records and Luminy Wolves, unbeaten in 19 group phase games, would surely have their sternest test yet to maintain that record.

What followed was the darkest hour in eurofootballfives.com history. For what it's worth Atletico Nacional were leading 2-1 when a pretty bad challenge from a Luminy Wolves player landed on one of the Atletico Nacional team. It was a bad tackle (admitted by Luminy Wolves) and we are sure would have been dealt with by the referee with a red card. However, the referee was not given the chance to act as all the Atletico Nacional subs and players from sister squad Leones FC raced onto the pitch to attack the French team and a 20-30 man brawl ensued.

The scenes were ugly to say the least and it took quite some effort to break up and restore calm. Those of you who have played in eurofootballfives.com tournaments before will know that our tournaments are social friendly tournaments characterized by good banter between teams on and off the pitch….proof of this is that so many of you come back year after year.

The incident in this game was utterly ridiculous and abhorrent to us as organisers and to all those who saw what happened. We were left with no choice but to disqualify all 3 teams from the tournament regardless of the level of blame (Luminy Wolves, Atletico Nacional and Leones FC) and hope that we never see the like of this ever, ever again. The teams were asked to leave the premises.

The eurofootballfives.com experience is all about enjoying the beautiful game, enjoying travel to great cities around the Europe, having a good laugh on tour and enjoying a few drinks in the evening. Aggressive behavior can simply not be tolerated. We only hope that this incident did not spoil the enjoyment of the day for the rest of the 21 well-behaved teams.

The disqualification of Atletico Nacional and Luminy Wolves meant that all results involving those teams were wiped from the records and the group table was rapidly recalculated. All remaining teams would be promoted two places in the table.

Right, back to normality and please step forward Saga Louts and Shahs of Sunset. We are pleased to say this game was played in the perfect spirit and was a shining example of how the game should be played. The revised table saw Shahs of Sunset occupying top spot and they had a chance to secure the Group A title with a win.

They set about their task well and two goals from Martin Weltman and a strike from captain Anes Jusic meant they were well on their way to victory by half-time. Dominic Vicos had found the net for Saga Louts to keep them in touch and a second from Vicos after the break reduced arrears to 3-2. It was game on but Saga Louts were unable to find the equalizer and, with the referee's final whistle, the Shahs of Sunset had won Group A – well done lads.
