The
2012 Valencia Fives Plate Final would be contested
by Deportivo and Club Tropicana Drinks FC. With
seven games of football already under their belt
the two teams would need to summon one last burst
of energy to ensure they would be picking up winners
and not runners-up medals in the presentation.
Deportivo
came into the game on a superb run of form with
just the one defeat in six and four games unbeaten
– it would take some performance to stop them.
Club Tropicana Drinks FC were on a superb run
themselves with just the one defeat in seven (an
expensive one to Hungary's FC Miracle that precluded
them from appearing in the Cup).
Which
team's momentum would carry them on to glory?
With the game underway it was Mathew Foster of
Deportivo who struck first. It is never easy chasing
a game in these tournaments as 5-a-side football
always leaves you prone to the counter attack
if you throw men forward unless you can get defenders
back quickly – it's even less easy towards the
back end of a tournament. The onus was on Club
Tropicana Drinks FC to grab the next goal but
they fell further behind when Mathew Foster made
it 2-0 with his sixth goal of the tournament.
Deportivo
now had one hand on the Plate trophy and they
could put two hands on it when an own goal helped
them to a 3-0 victory and a superb performance
in this Plate Final and on the day as a whole.
Congratulations lads.
Club
Tropicana Drinks FC, whilst no doubt disappointed,
should not be disconsolate though as they added
a great deal to this tournament and we are sure
success will come to them in future tournaments.
The quality shown today would certainly put them
down as a team to compete at Cup level in the
future.
Our
sincere congratulations to the 2012 Valencia Fives
Plate Winners – Deportivo.
