After
a long day of competition we had whittled the
24 teams at the start down to just 2. We were
just one game away from knowing who would be crowned
as The 2012 Valencia Fives champions.
The
two teams lining up for the Final were Mestallaban
of Ireland and FC Miracle of Hungary. Mestallaban
had already equaled the best performance by an
Irish team in eurofootballfives.com competition
– by reaching the Cup Final they emulated Saipan
FC who narrowly lost 1-0 via Golden Goal to Spain's
Black Sheep at the 2012 Barcelona Fives. If they
could go one step further they would create history.
FC
Miracle's appearance in the Cup Final represented
a fourth Cup Final for a Hungarian team but as
yet no winner. The list reads;
2011
Budapest Fives: Lost 2-1 on penalties to Olympic
Phil Babb
2011
Barca Fives: FC Miracle lost 2-1 to Midshires
FC
2012
Budapest Fives: Budapest Celtic Tigers lost 5-1
to ABC United (Rom)
Could
it be fourth time lucky for FC Miracle? The two
teams had already met today in the group phase
where Mestallaban pulled off a stunning 3-0 victory.
Whilst that would have no bearing on this match
it must surely boost the Irish team's confidence
and would it put doubt in the minds of the Hungarian
team?
FC
Miracle started like a house on fire and looked
determined to put that previous defeat firmly
behind them. They raced into a 3-0 lead and effectively
claimed the title in the opening half. Janos Molnar
(8 for the tournament) and Csaba Balogh (9 for
the tournament get the ball rolling before Laszlo
Zsolt's 11th of the tournament made it 3-0. This
goal was important as his haul of 11 made him
the tournament top goalscorer outright (moving
clear of The Maverick's Manish Madhvani). Only
his two aforementioned team-mates could stop him
now.
In
the second half Zsolt made it 4-0 and took his
tally to 12 goals. It was a great individual performance
within a great team performance and he would later
collect the tournament Top Goalscorer award.
We
offer our consolations to Mestallaban who had
a great tournament and the Cup Final was a game
too far. If we had an award for the most improved
team they would certainly get it.
A
big congratulations to FC Miracle – they were
superb on the day and were worthy winners. They
did their home nation of Hungary proud!
We
would like to thank everyone for attending the
tournament and ensuring the day was a massive
success. We hope to see you all again at a tournament
very soon.
