As
we entered the final Round of games much of the
Group C qualification places was still to be decided
and we were very much looking forward to three
intriguing matches to decide the final league
standings. Events on Pitch A would rob us of this
as the ugly incident involving Luminy Wolves and
Atletico Nacional which saw Leones FC get involved
meant we had to disqualify Leones FC from the
tournament.
They
were due to play Grant Thornton so it meant Grant
Thornton would have one less game and would be
unable to build on their 8-points tally. For this
we can only apologise but we were unfortunately
left with no choice.
Following
Leones FC's disqualification the group table was
adjusted with all their results struck from the
records.
All
this meant that when Alphasights met The Mavericks
the table looked quite different to it did at
the end of Round 4. The Mavericks had their one
victory struck off and so they were now unable
to make the Cup. The Plate was their best option.
Alphasights, who had lost to Leones FC, were now
sitting pretty knowing Cup qualification was theirs.
With a victory they could claim the Group C title.
A
victory proved beyond them though and after the
game had run its course the points were shared
with a 1-1 draw – The Mavericks third draw in
five games. Manish Madhvani maintained his fine
goalscoring record for The Mavericks. For Alphasights,
Craig Hinde scored his second of the tournament.
