For
the second time in eurofootballfives.com history
we had a Trophy competition to supplement our
traditional Cup and Plate competitions. The Quarter-Final
draw had been decimated somewhat by the three
disqualifications. This meant three teams had
an extended lunch break courtesy of earning a
bye to the Semi-Finals – they were Nothigam Pressa
(Spa), FC Dad (Eng) and Los Langeros (Ire).
This
meant there was just one game – Team GB versus
Sporting Abeergut. Team GB would feel a bit unlucky
for playing in the Trophy competition as they
had picked up two wins in their five group games
which on any other day would usually mean Plate
qualification. However, one of those wins was
chalked off due to Leones FC's disqualification.
Sporting
Abeergut had started the day well with a 2-0 win
over Panteras but had since then struggled so
it was probably fair to say they would be considered
the underdogs in this tie. Team GB looked to reaffirm
that viewpoint when they opened the scoring through
Alex Wilson's 7th goal of the tournament.
Team
GB maintained the 1-0 lead until half-time. In
goal-scoring terms this was the proverbial game
of two halves as Matt Johnson hit back for Sporting
Abeergut with his 4 th and 5 th goals of the tournament.
He turned the game on its head and Sporting Abeergut
were through to the Semi-Finals. It was sadly
game over for Team GB on the field at least. We
hope they enjoyed their debut eurofootballfives
experience and hope to see them on tour again
soon.
