Shrewsbury Townsend who would start their campaign at the start of Round 2 against The A Team.

Shrewsbury Townsend were making a welcome return after t heir last appearance with us at the 2016 Lisbon Tournament. They opened up with a 2-0 loss to PPB (Por) before defeating Fundacio Benfica (Por), 1-0. A 3-1 win against Ukraine's East United put them in a strong position before a 2-0 defeat to Burritos. 3 teams finished joint 2 nd on 6 points but sadly for Shrewsbury Townsend their goal difference meant they finished in fourth place. They qualified for the Plate Semi-Finals but went out 2-1 to Southgate County.

A cancelled flight meant Shrewsbury Townsend were missing half of their team for this one which was naturally far from ideal preparations. They were up against a team who had won their opening fixture and would be buoyant coming into this one. It was The A Team who struck first with Charly Miampu putting the French 1-0 up. Cedric then doubled the lead and also added a third. The match finished 3-0 to The A Team who joined their compatriots World Pinteur at the summit of Group B.

Game 5 of Group B was to be FC Tpaktop II versus AFC Shooters. Both teams were looking to bounce back from opening game defeat against the same opposition – World Pinteur. AFC Shooters lost 2-0 and FC TPaktop II 3-1 so there may not be much to choose between the two teams.

AFC Shooters first appeared in the Veterans section of our events at the 2022 Lisbon Veterans Tournament with two teams. AFC Shooters 1 started in style with a 4-1 win over Southgate County Brewers and a 2-0 win over ACE & The Swagmen. A narrow 1-0 loss to eventual champions FC Mahou preceded a return to winning ways (3-1) against The Maulers. They finished in second place in Group B to qualify for the Cup competition. They drew 1-1 with FC Dad but lost an epic penalty shoot-out, 8-7.

AFC Shooters 2 also began well with a 3-1 win over Santa Maria before a 1-1 draw with FC Dad. A 2-1 win over Los Amblos and a 0-0 draw against The Warriors followed. They lost their final group game (3-0) to Les 5 Salopards that saw them slip to third in the table and miss out on the Cup. In the Plate Semi-Finals they lost 4-2 to ACE & The Swagmen.

AFC Shooters fell behind in this one as FC Tpaktop's Timur Garifzyanov put his team ahead. There was joy for AFC Shooters though as Marc Monserrat fired his team level at 1-1. The match finished 1-1 and both teams had their first points on the board.

To complete Round 2 we had Les 5 Salopards (Fra) versus FC Poloboc (Mda). The former began with a narrow 3-2 defeat to The A Team and were looking to bounce back with a result here. They arguably had the toughest team to play against.

At the 2023 Barcelona Veterans Fives FC Poloboc went all the way despite a 1-0 defeat in their first game to 2012 Valencia Fives winners FC Miracle (Hun). Thereafter, the won 5 games in a row in Group A scoring 15 goals and conceding just 2 as they finished in second place in the table. They set-up a Cup Semi-Final against China's Beijing Rockets which they won 1-0. They met AFC Blue Boys of Poland in the Cup Final and won 3-0 to become worthy champions.

The Moldovans started on the front foot here with Leonid Cigureanu making it 1-0. Nadir Tarbi equalized to make it 1-1 for Les 5 Salopards but they were not level for long. Leonid Cigureanu scored again to make it 2-1. Andrian Cucovei extended that lead to 3-1 before Oleg Sculea gave his team a 3 goal cushion at 4-1.

Nadir Tarbi scored his third goal of the tournament for Les 5 Salopards to reduce the deficit to 4-2 but the game was made safe for FC Poloboc when Grigore Badea made it 5-2. A fine start for FC Poloboc in their hunt for another title.
