Round 7 would kick-off with AC Motxto International versus Alea Iacta Est. The away team had quite a bit riding on this game. In Round 6, FC Mahou had opened up a 3 point lead at the top and closed the goal difference. Alea Iacta Est were +17 whilst FC were +5 but now were +14. Both FC Mahou and Alea Iacta Est boasted 100% records so Group A could well be decided by this metric. A win for the Polish team in this match would put them back on top.

AC Motxto results read win, draw, draw, loss and loss. With the trajectory of results you would think this could well be another win for Alea Iacta Est. The Spanish team hadn't read the script though. AC Motxto didn't have too much to play for other than pride. In terms of the group table they were in fourth place and 7 points adrift of third with just this game to go. Behind them in the table they could still be overhauled by IFC Prague should AC Motxto lose and the Czechs win. Regardless of result, AC Motxto were through to the Plate.

With the pressure off, perhaps this allowed the Spanish to relax as they pulled off their second victory of the day and what a win it was. Alea Iacta Est had scored 18 goals in 4 games but could not find a way past the Madrid team's defence which held firm. At the other end, Alea Iacta Est had only conceded once but they were to concede twice in this game.

It was a sensational result for AC Motxto as Luis Ricardo Denche Pulido and Miguel Angel Madero Cornejo goal's completed the win. It was also a senstational result for FC Mahou who now only needed to avoid defeat in their final game to win Group A. It was not a great result for Alea Iacta Est.

The 20 th game of Group A was an incredible game. It was all about Plate qualification. IFC Prague's win last time out had ensured their safe passage. They were currently 5th and could finish no higher thanks to AC Motxto's victory above. Mitre FC Vets simply had to win to avoid their exit from the competition. A draw would see them level with Southgate Tourists on points but out on goal difference. Only a win would be good enough.

It didn't look good early doors for Mitre FC Vets as IFC Prague took the lead through Adam Johnson. When Johnson went on to complete his hat-trick the result looked a mere formality at 3-0. A Jose Roberto Corrodus goal gave them hope and was the catalyst for a sensational comeback.

With 1 point from 5 games and 3-0 down who could have foreseen what followed in the dying embers of Group A. Enter Steve Ashman into the fold as he brough them closer at 3-2. He scored an unlikely equalizer for 3-3 and then bagged a hat-trick goal to put them ahead at 4-3. Mitre FC Vets were in dreamland as Jonathan MacDonald put the icing on a 5-3 cake.

It was a sensational recovery and they left it late. Very late. At 3-0 down, if they were a patient flat-lining on life support many a doctor would have given up on resuscitation. The fat lady was clearing her throat before heading to the mic stand but it wasn't over. It was a remarkable story but Mitre FC Vets lived to fight another day. They were through in 6th, Southgate Tourists were out in 7th .

The final fixture of Group A was the group decider between Alea Iacta Est and FC Mahou. As we progressed through the group we were poised for a thrilling finale with both teams looking like they'd bring their 100% record to the table.

With Alea Iacta Est's surprise defeat last time out the complexion of this game had changed somewhat. It was probably going to be the English team needing a win to win the group with a draw being enough for the Polish to take it on goal difference. However, Alea Iacta now had to win to top the table. A draw would see FC Mahou take it by 3 points. A FC Mahou win would make a tough group look quite comfortable in the end.

It wasn't just the Group A win, pride and bragging rights on offer. There were potential repercussions for the Cup Semi-Final draw. In an ideal world you'd want to win the group so you'd play second place from the other group. In theory, this offered an easier route through to the Cup Final and silverware.

The game itself passed without incident perhaps with both teams conserving energy for the knockout phase. Defences were on top as the teams played out a 0-0 draw. The only 0-0 draw so far and there would only be in 2 in the 88 games of 2024 Prague Fives in both the Open Age and the Veterans section combined.

Group A concluded with FC Mahou winning the group so well done to them but congratulations to both teams on making it through to the elite Cup competition.
