So, onto Round 5 we go and still plenty to play for in Group A. The bottom three were beginning to get cut adrift from the four teams above them. In terms of jeopardy, the team who finished in 7th position would be eliminated so it seemed to be three teams battling to avoid that final place. Two of those teams were going toe-to-toe in this fixture with Southgate Tourists versus Mitre FC Vets.

There was a lot riding on this game – Southgate Tourists could give them a 4 point cushion from elimination if they could find victory. The opening exchanges went well for Southgate Tourists as it was they who took a 1-0 lead. Ryan Kerby the man with the crucial goal. For Mitre Vets the situation was maybe not desperate but it was becoming serious. They couldn't afford to be one of just two teams battling to avoid elimination, they needed to keep Southgate Tourists in the mix at the very least. Steve Ashman's equalizing goal was therefore huge. There was to be no further score as the match finished level.

In isolation, a 1-1 draw is an OK result. However, in the context of the group it didn't really help either team too much (whilst clearly better than a defeat). The result was a better one at this stage for Southgate Tourists as it saw them up to fifth in the table but would have felt like two points dropped having been ahead. There was still only 2 points separating 5th to 7th places.

FC Mahou and FC Tpaktop I both appeared at the 2023 Mallorca Veterans 12 months ago but avoided each other on that occasion. In Mallorca, FC Mahou finished second in Group B with 7 points (2 wins, 1 draw, 1 defeat) and a whopping 15-3 goal difference. Their day ended on penalties after a 3-3 draw against the eventual champions Duktil Balear in the Cup Quarter-Finals. FC Tpaktop finished third in their group on 6 points (2 wins, 2 losses) and a 6-10 goal difference. Their results included a 4-0 defeat to Duktil Balear as a point of reference between the two teams.

Today, the two teams were locked together on 9 points at the top (although FC Mahou did have a game in hand). The teams were separated by goal difference with FC Mahou +4 and FC Tpaktop I on +2.

We expected a close game and that's exactly what we got. FC Tpaktop I had not conceded in three games so we thought it would be a low scoring encounter with teams having to be clinical in front of goal. Ultimately, just one goal would settle matters. The man of the moment was Iain Raisbeck whose second goal of the tournament would earn his team all 3 points.

With a game in hand over FC Tpaktop I it was a big stride forward for Cup qualification where only the top two would proceed.

The 15th game of Group A was IFC Prague versus Alea Iacta Est. If we were looking to write a headline it would have to be “ Alea Iacta Est Dominate to Claim Top Spot.”

The Polish team entered the match needing a win to keep pace with FC Mahou at the top of the table. Unbeaten so far, they faced IFC Prague, who were struggling in 6th place out of seven teams. Alea Iacta Est delivered an emphatic performance, securing a 7-0 victory to move top of the table on goal difference.

The match began with Alea Iacta Est on the front foot, and it didn't take long for Piotr Malenczak to open the scoring. Malenczak quickly doubled his tally, putting his team in a commanding position early on. Jakub Szlezingier added a third goal, further extending their lead. Pedro Silveira then scored twice in quick succession, effectively sealing the game with a 5-0 lead. Michal Sklodowski and Kamil Zawada each found the back of the net to round off a comprehensive 7-0 victory for Alea Iacta Est. Their dominant performance not only kept them unbeaten but also propelled them to the top of the standings on goal difference, boasting an impressive goal tally of 18-1. IFC Prague, despite their efforts, remained in 6th place after the game.
