The
Wooden Spoon Competition saw the four 5th placed
teams come head-to-head in, what is also sometimes
dubbed as, the battle for 17th. Before the Semi-Finals
kicked off we knew we would have an Ireland versus
England final as the draw had thrown up an all-Ireland
Semi and an all-England Semi.
Let
us begin with the all-Ireland encounter between
Celtic Craic and Dot Cotton's Flaps. We had Dot
Cotton's Flaps down as favourites on the strength
of the Group performance as they had picked up
3 more points and a goal difference 19 goals healthier.
Celtic Craic defied these odds in the first half
with an admirable performance that saw the two
teams go into half-time level at 2-2. Mick Dillon
and David Gorey both finding the net for Celtic
Craic to cancel out Shane Murphy and Fiachra Hartnett's
goals for Dot Cotton's Flaps. In the second half
it was to be the favourites who just had the edge
as Ross Nicholson bagged a brace to put his team
into the Wooden Spoon Final. The final score,
4-2. |
