The afternoon knock-out phase of the 2010 Prague Masters began with the Plate Quarter-Finals. First up was DHL Prague Blue against The Bernabeu Butchers. In a high scoring tournament this first quarter-final was a tale of two goalkeepers as Mark Keogh and Simon Pike both kept clean sheets and their respective teams in the game. The game finished 0-0 and we were into Golden Goal extra time.

These teams were no strangers to each other and had met before in the 2007 and 2008 Prague Trophy tournaments when Simon Pike's team were playing under the Red Star Rickerbys' name. In 2007 it was a Cup Quarter-Final where DHL Prague were 2-1 victors and in 2008 the Czech team won again in the group stages with a 2-0 scoreline. The 2010 Prague Masters saw a measure of revenge for the English team as James Halliday was the hero scoring the vital Golden Goal to send the Bernabeu Butchers through to the semi-final.

The second Quarter-Final was to prove as equally close when JNJ Global Services met Dynamo Fucdarest. JNJ Global Services had reached their 4 th Plate Quarter-Final and were looking to qualify for their 3 rd semi-final against a very capable Dynamo Fucdarest team. It was the latter who drew first blood in this contest when Ravdeep Bhogal scored his fourth of the competition. It was a lead they were unable to hold on to as Vincent Solem scored his third of the day to secure a 1-1 draw and send the teams into Golden Goal extra time. Extra time was to prove goal-less and we were into the dreaded penalty shoot-out.

Dynamo Fucdarest were to shoot first as Rajinder Dhaliwal made it 1-0, quickly cancelled out by JNJ's Wilco Velohuizen. Randeep Bhogal restored the shoot-out advantage at 2-1 before Josef Salatek equalized again. The fifth penalty would see the crucial moment of this tie as Harminder Kalirai's penalty was superbly saved by JNJ's goalkeeper Gordon MacIntosh. This left Vincent Solem with the chance to send his team through to the semi-finals which he achieved giving Rajinder Singh no chance in the Dynamo goal. Dynamo Fucdarest's day was over but they showed they had enough ability to do well in eurofootballfives.com competition and they were a credit to the tournament.

In Quarter-Final 3, Masters of the Pooniverse met Plate specialists CSF. The CSF had made 5 Plate Finals winning 4 of them. Their only Plate Final defeat came in the 2007 Prague Trophy final and so they would be looking to add Prague Plate success to their collection. Masters of the Pooniverse (under the name Amsterdamage) could have met the CSF in the 2009 Amsterdam Fives Plate Final had they not narrowly lost on penalties in the semi-finals. This had the makings of a quality contest.

It was Masters of the Pooniverse who struck the first blow through James Whittaker. From there the CSF had it all to do and for once in the Plate it was not going to be their day for although Soph Jones found the net they conceded three more to Peter Lovell and Daniel O'Reagan (2). Masters of the Pooniverse were in their 2nd Plate semi-final. The CSF were to be found in the bar for the rest of the afternoon!

Last but not least in the Quarter-Finals was another Plate specialist in 3-times finalists DHL Prague Red. They were playing against Ken Dodd's Diddy Men. DHL Prague Red took the lead when David Janecek scored his second goal in consecutive games before Rupert Baltrock's third of the day made it 2-0 by the break. Ken Dodd's Diddy Men had one half of football to rescue the situation and make the semi-finals. They kept going to the end and almost earned extra-time when Ben Clissold and Dave Elam found the net but it was not quite enough as Tosin Adeogun scored with what was surprisingly his first of the day but a crucial goal as it sent DHL Prague Red into the next round 3-2. Ken Dodd's Diddy Men hadpushed them all the way in the second half and the remainder of the 2010 Prague Masters was now a watching brief for them.
