As
we entered the final Round of games it was now
or never for the teams in reaching the knock-out
stages.
This
was virtually a knock-out game with the winner
takes all in the bid for third place. No Wille's
currently occupied third place and a draw would
be good enough for them as long as Los Lechones
didn't win by 9 goals in their final fixture.
Old Sedcopians Academy would move to 7 points
with victory which Los Lechones could also match
should they win but Old Sedcopians Academy goal
difference was currently -1 compared to -11 for
Los Lechones so this was unlikely to be overturned.
It
was No Wille's who got off to the perfect start
in this game as Ben Norman scored for the second
game in succession to put his team 1-0 up. That's
how it stayed until half-time.
The
second half saw a fine comeback for Old Sedcopians
Academy. Joseph Tamlyn equalized and from there
his team never looked back. They forged ahead
and then opened up a two goal cushion as Tamlyn
scored his second of the game and Luke Baxter
also got in on the act.
The
final score was 3-1 and it was a fine three points
that ensured Plate qualification for Old Sedcopians
Academy. No Wille's would join them in the Plate
so long as Los Lechones failed to win their final
game.
Mambos
hardly needed any help today but they were given
a helping hand by Son Gual's absence as they
received a 3-0 walkover win.
That
left us with Los Lechones versus FC Radbroke to
wrap up Group C. The game was a big one for Los
Lechones as they needed a victory to reach the
Plate competition at the expense of No Wille's.
Should Los Lechones draw or lose then they would
finish in fifth position.
There
was less riding on the game for FC Radbroke as
they would finish in second position regardless
of the result in this game but they would want
to win for pride, honour and momentum going into
the Cup Quarter-Finals. They could also match
their points haul of 12 from the group phase 4
years ago.
FC
Radbroke were in unforgiving mood as they put
Los Lechones to the sword. The game was very one
sided and FC Radbroke went goal crazy. Mike Brandon
scored his second hat-trick of the day and there
were also hat-tricks for Pete Cox and Bernie Lebon.
Matt Nicholls and Shaun Gurney also notched a
strike on their goal-scoring bedposts.
It
would be the biggest win of the day and the biggest
win in Mallorca Tournament history beating the
11-1 Cheesecake FC victory versus Taylor's Tigers
in 2014.
With
all the results in there was a fair bit of carnage
to come in Group C. No Wille's, Los Lechones and
Mambos were all unable to continue in the competition
for a variety of reasons which saw FC Radbroke
rise to 1st place in the knock-out draw and Old
Sedcopians Academy promoted to 2nd place and thereby
qualify for the Cup.
