* Los Pibes (Spa) won 2-0 on penalties.

As the 2016 Mallorca Tournament Cup Quarter-Finals were about to get underway we were down to the elite 8 teams in the tournament. There was a particularly strong local challenge with 5 Spanish teams represented.

We started on Pitch A with Los Pibes versus Mallorca Look. Los Pibes came into the game with a perfect record of four wins out of four after suffering an opening game loss. They had scored 20 goals without reply since 2-0 defeat at the start of the morning. Mallorca Look would have quite a task on their hands to advance in this tournament.

Mallorca Look's record was pretty good themselves as they had also won 4 and lost just the 1 game. They had out-scored their opponents with 25 goals in the group phase but also had conceded more - 7 goals compared to the 2 by Los Pibes. This promised to be quite an encounter.

It was Los Pibes who struck first to lead 1-0 at half-time but Mallorca Look hit back after the break to make it 2-2 at full-time. We would need a penalty shoot-out to decide this tie.

Mallorca Look would take the first penalty but would miss and hand the initiative to Los Pibes. Mattas Damian De Llano scored the second goal of the game for Los Pibes and he was to put them 1-0 up in the shoot-out. Miguel Lopez then stepped up for Mallorca Look and with 13 goals today (including 2 in this Quarer-Final) you would back him to score but his strike cannoned back off the post.

It meant Agustin Luis Castro had the chance to send Los Pibes through and he did just that. Mallorca Look were out but it had been a hugely impressive debut.

Up next on Pitch B was FC Radbroke versus Policia Local. This promised to be a heavyweight contest between two teams with a great eurofootballfives.com pedigree. Policia Local won the 2011 Mallorca Tournament whilst in the same year FC Radbroke won the Prague Masters. FC Radbroke also won the 2013 Algarve Open.

The two teams met here 4 years ago in the 2012 Mallorca Tournament. It was a group phase game and FC Radbroke emerged victorious by a slender 1-0 margin. At half-time the lead in this game was by a slender one goal margin but there were plenty of goals to enjoy. It was 3-2 and it was Policia Local who edged it thanks to goals from Xisco Ruiz Vives (2) and Antonio Bullon Pujol. The goals for FC Radbroke came from Matt Nicholls and Mike Brandon (who scored the winning goal in 2012).

It was Policia Local who also edged the second half as they scored two of the three goals making the full-time score 5-3 to the Spanish based team. Antonio Bullon Pujol took his tally to the day to 8 goals and Cristobal Tejado Luna grabbed his first.

Pete Armstrong would score FC Radbroke's final goal of today's tournament as they left us at the Quarter-Final stage – just as they did 4 years ago. There was some small consolation for Mike Brandon who finished as joint top UK goalscorer in the tournament with a haul of 9 goals.

Quarter-Final three saw Peluqueria Mariano take on Relentless FC. Peluqueria Mariano had been hugely impressive in winning Group B and boasted a 100% record with a maximum 5 wins and scoring 25 goals along the way. Relentless FC would certainly deserve their place in the Semi-Finals if they could overcome their local hosts.

Relentless FC had enjoyed a decent morning themselves. They began by inflicting a 2-0 defeat on a very good Los Pibes team and generally played very well with the exception of just one defeat. They had scored 10 goals and conceded 9 in the process but judging by the noises coming out of the Relentless FC camp they went into this game with some trepidation.

Their trepidation was well founded as Peluqueria Mariano continued from where they left off at the end of the group phase. Peluqueria Mariano averaged 5 goals per game today and hit that mark in the first half here. The scoring quietened down in the second half which finished level at 1-1 as the Spanish team ran out 6-1 victors. Callum Pugh scored for the fourth game in a row which was some achievement but it was scant consolation for Relentless FC who were out. Thank you to them for appearing and they left a good mark on the Mallorca Tournament and were a welcome addition to the eurofootballfives.com tour.

The final Quarter-Final was Brioche versus Old Sedcopians Academy. Brioche had one of the best records of all the teams in the group phase. They won Group D with a 100% record and an impressive difference of +12. They scored 17 goals and conceded just 5. It would be a brave man to bet against Brioche in this one.

Old Sedcopians Academy could not be discounted though – they qualified from Group C after Mambos withdrawal. So, maybe a bit like Denmark in the Euro 2012 Championships a late entrant could go all the way and claim the ultimate prize. They would certainly be the under-dogs in this game but in a season when Leicester won the Premier League anything was possible.

Brioche had already defeated Old Sedcopians Academy's sister team, Legends, in the group phase. It was 3-0 then to the Spanish and they established a 3-0 lead here against the Academy thanks to a double strike from Cheema Molina and a single strike from Santiago Caballero.

In the second half Pau Bujosa added a fourth to put the icing on the cake for the home team. Old Sedcopians Academy had fought hard but Brioche had just too much quality for them.

As we commented when the Legends left us in the Plate, we'd like to thank Old Sedcopians for joining us in Mallorca. We hope you enjoyed your tour and wish you every success for your next domestic season.
