It would have been the all Spanish contest of Los Pibes versus Valecuatro to kick-off Round 3. However, due to the absence of Valecuatro it would be an extended break for Los Pibes. We would chalk up their 3-0 walkover win and add it to the group table.

OK, let's get back to the action. It was top versus bottom with Big Wille's meeting The Average Joes. For Big Wille's this was a chance to go top of the table in their own right and move 3 points ahead of Relentless FC (who admittedly would have a game in hand). For The Average Joes, this was a chance to get some points on the board.

The Average Joes had been competitive in 3 of their 4 halves of football so far but one poor half against Los Pibes had damaged their group record. They would be hoping more of the form against Bede FC (although with a different result) would raise its head rather than the form of the Los Pibes game. That appeared to be the case as they competed well in the first half but were unable to prevent Big Wille's taking a 1-0 lead at the break.

Olly Housden scored the opening goal which was fourth of the tournament already. He would add to his tally in the second half to make it 2-0 to Big Wille's. Although early doors in this tournament he was a man to keep an eye on for the top goalscorer award.

The result went with the form book and Big Wille's won 2-0.

To complete Round 3 was Bede FC versus Relentless FC. All eyes were on Relentless FC to see if they could secure a win that would send them back to a share of the lead in Group A and join Big Wille's on 9 points.

Bede FC had started the day well with a win and if they could return to winning ways we would have a three team tie on 6 points and make the race for Cup and Plate qualification really interesting. We expected the game to be tight but Bede FC raced into a 3-0 first half lead.

It was much of the same in the second half as 3-0 became 6-1 and Bede FC recorded their largest win in Europe and, we are reliably informed, their largest win ever. It was a stunning result for them and everyone contributed. The goals were shared around and came from Dave Gatt (2), Jonathan Balmforth (2), Troy Grant and Muhammad Chilwan.

Callum Pugh scored his first goal in Europe but, alas for him and his team, it was to be a mere consolation. It was a tough defeat for Relentless FC but they should not be despondent. They remained in joint second place and with two more games to go were well placed to push for a place in the Cup.
