We arrived at the Plate Quarter-Final stage and we would shortly see eight teams reduced to four teams. We had a really high quality line-up in the Plate with 1 previous Cup winner and 1 previous Plate winner featuring. In many ways, some of these teams could easily be in the Cup line-up at one of our other events.

To begin it was Sporting Armada versus Spider Mans Twos. It was one of two Armada v Spider Mans fixtures in the Quarter-Finals as Athletico Armada versus Spider Mans Ones was due on Pitch 2 after this game. These games were on opposite sides of the draw so it was conceivable to have an Armada v Armada or a Spider Mans v Spider Mans final.

There was a lot of water to flow under the bridge until then though. Sporting Armada had secured the higher league position and had emerged from the tougher group so they would start this game as favourites. They lived up to their billing.

Ethan McCreight opened the scoring to make it 1-0 to Sporting Armada – his first of the day. Harry Tampsett doubled the advantage with his fifth goal. Ethan McCreight and Harry Tampsett then each doubled their personal tally and took the score to 4-0. Ethan McCreight then went on to complete a hat-trick, a great achievement for him.

Sporting Armada were going through but Spider Mans Twos signed off with a goal. Danny Foy's third of the event made the final score 5-1.

The second Quarter-Final saw Hampstead Heath Cruisers take on Missing Magpies. Hampstead Heath Cruisers finished third in Group B which represented a good effort on debut. Missing Magpies finished in sixth in Group A – both teams had lost twice but Hampstead Heath Cruisers had 3 wins compared to 3 draws for Missing Magpies.

Missing Magpies had qualified for the Plate for the second time in our tournaments (qualifying for the Cup in their other 3 appearances). On their previous Plate Quarter-Final appearance they celebrated a 4-0 win over Ireland's Balotellitubbies at the 2014 Barcelona Fives.

Missing Magpies were on the winning trail again although they couldn't quite match the score from Barcelona. Steve Doogan made the initial breakthrough for 1-0 before Henry Pescod and Andrew Robertson contributed to make it 2-0 and 3-0.

In the lower half of the Quarter-Final draw it was Hellgarve Kraken's versus Lads of Lisboa. We mentioned above that one of our quarter-finalists had previously won a Cup competition and it was Hellgarve Kraken's who won the 2015 Algarve Open as Futeboladas. They also reached a Cup Quarter-Final as recently as the 2018 Barcelona Fives when they missed out on progress 2-1 to LT United of Lithuania. They were arguably favourites to win the Plate.

Lads of Lisboa had previously played in three Plate Quarter-Finals at our events. They lost both at the 2016 Krakow Trophy (had two teams) but progressed at the 2015 Budapest Fives when they defeated Peckham Legends on penalties after a 2-2 draw in normal time.

It was to be a third PQF defeat for Lads of Lisboa as Hellgarve Krakens showed their quality. Andre Mateus got the ball rolling for 1-0 before Hugo Dias, Tiago Nogueira and Joao Pirote made it 4-0. There was then a special moment for Tiago Nogueira as he added to more to complete his hat-trick and make it 6-0.

Lads of Lisboa had the final say as Ben Lovell scored to make it 6-1.

The final Quarter-Final saw Athletico Armada take on Spider Mans Ones. We had already seen Sporting Armada triumph over Spider Mans Twos. Could Spider Mans Ones exact their revenge or would it be an Armada double?

The form table suggested Athletico Armada could well win this one. Their record today read W-L-L-W-W-L compared with Spider Mans Ones which read W-W-D-L-L-L. Since Henry Pescod equalized in game 3 for Missing Magpies, Spider Mans Ones had gone on to concede 16 goals without reply. A remarkable change in fortune from when they looked like making it 3 wins from 3.

Athletico Armada heaped on the pressure. Tom Vivian scored his fourth of the day to set Athletico Armada on their way to a 3-0 lead. Jack Rusbridge and Dean Stockdale were on the scoresheet for Armada.

Spider Mans Ones had now conceded 19 without reply. The pendulum swung back in their Jekyll/Hyde performance today. Steve Wildman stopped the rot to make it 3-1. Ryan Stevens reduced the deficit to 3-2 and Richard Eggleston bagged the equalizer to make it 3-3.

Spider Mans Ones were back! But, then they were out! Jack Rusbridge scored his second of the game to regain the lead for Athletico Armada and secure a 4-3 win. What an incredible game!
