With 7 teams in each group, 1 team would sit out each round. In Round 1 it was Missing Magpies but they would kick us off in the second round of fixtures having had a chance to evaluate their opposition from Round 1. They were up against Hellgarve Kraken's.

In their first game, Hellgarve Kraken's had suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Indoorsoccer Café O Trem. They would no doubt be looking to get their first points on the board as soon as possible. If they were to do so, they would need to come from behind.

The opening goal of this game was a cracker. Missing Magpies picked up a free-kick in a dangerous position. Steve Doogan stepped up and struck it perfectly to find the top right corner. Hellgarve Kraken's hit back and they did so in equally good fashion. Honorato Ricardo struck a thunderbolt of a free kick into the far top corner.

The two teams had traded quality free-kicks and we finished level at 1-1.

In the next game we had Black Dog's Bald Club who were looking to bounce back from opening game defeat. They were up against Sporting Armada who were looking to build upon a creditable 1-1 draw versus Pangare Futebol Clube.

Black Dog's Bald Club had been level in their previous game at 1-1 until Spider Mans forged 3-1 ahead. They were level for some time in this game too at 0-0. Their chances of picking up a draw were dashed in the latter stages of the game as Ben Renshaw struck to earn Sporting Armada a 1-0 win. Renshaw was the one man in the Sporting Armada squad with previous eurofootballfives.com experience having previously played at the 2017 Barcelona Fives and 2018 Mallorca Fives. He'd made a fine start to Lisbon 2019 with 2 goals in 2 games.

Sporting Armada had also made a fine start with 4 points from a possible 6.

The final game of Round 2 was Indoorsoccer Café O Trem against Spider Mans Ones. Both teams were looking to add to first round victories.

As we briefly mentioned in Round 1, Spider Mans Ones were making their 11th appearance in our tournaments and this was their second appearance in Lisbon. At the 2015 Lisbon Tournament they proved to be the draw specialists of the tournament with 4 draws out of 5 which hindered their league progress and so they finished 5 th . The knock-out phase saw yet another draw and so they would go to penalties with “Where's Dave?” – the latter winning an epic shoot-out, 5-4.

It looked like they could be win specialists rather than draw specialists in 2019 as they made it 6 points out of 6. They were looking in good form as a fine passing move saw them break the deadlock against the Portuguese. A well-timed overlap on the left saw the ball crossed to the far post for Richard Eggleston to apply the finish – his third goal in two games.

The win was secured when Steve Wildman made it 2-0 (his 25th goal in eurofootballfives.com competition). There was a first clean sheet of the day for Joe McNamara as Indoorsoccer Café O Trem could find no way back into the game.
