We began Group B with Spider Mans Twos versus Spider Mans 5hitters. This would be the third time in our events that we've experienced a Spider Mans derby. The two previous occasions have been:

2016 Krakow Trophy Cup SF: Eagles beat Great Hawk, 3-0.

2018 Riga Tournament Plate SF: 1s beat Ressies, 3-2.

This would be the first time in a group phase and was a mouth-watering prospect to kick off Group B and it turned out to be a pretty good game.

 

It was the 5hitters who scored the first goal of Group B with Sam A'Court on target. The Twos levelled it up thanks to a goal from Dom Rice. The game would not end in a draw though as we had time for a winner. Seb Dunnett scored the decisive goal and took the bragging rights for Spider Mans 5hitters. Final score, 1-2.

 
 
 

Match 2 in Group B saw Indoorsoccer versus Hampstead Heath Cruisers or at least it would have. The Indoorsoccer Café O Trem side was in attendance and playing in Group A but the main Indoorsoccer team, so we were told by phone, were running late. They missed this game and handed Hampstead Heath Cruisers a 3-0 walkover.

 
 
 

The next two teams to get underway in Round 1 were Athletico Armada and Lads of Lisboa.

Lads of Lisboa were making a second Lisbon Tournament appearance. They made their eurofootballfives.com debut at the 2013 Lisbon Tournament and made a fine start with a 5-2 victory over Breckland FC. Defeat followed to Hungary's Csabagyongye before victory over FC Dad (1-0) and 2 defeats to the 2 Portuguese sides in their group. They finished 4 th in their group and qualified for the Plate Semi-Finals before going out to FC Dynamoes.

Athletico Armada were on debut so this was our first glimpse at them in action. Their “Sporting” sister squad had already pulled off a 1-1 draw against the 2017 champions in Group A. Could Athletico emulate or better that result?

Yes, they could. In a low-scoring contest just the one goal was needed to separate the two teams. Cometh the hour, cometh the man and that man was Jack Rusbridge. 1-0 to Athletico Armada.
