Welcome to Lisbon for the sixth edition of the Lisbon Tournament - 5-a-side football under the early Summer Portuguese sun. With 14-teams assembled we were ready to kick-off the eurofootballfives.com 2019 season. It was to be our 13th season of European action.

First up in Group A was Sporting Armada (Eng) versus Pangare Futebol Clube (Bra). This represented a really tough start for the English team in our tournaments as they were up against the 2017 winners of this tournament.

Although it looked a really tough start they more than held their own. In fact, it the was the English team who took the lead thanks to their number 5, Ben Renshaw. Unfortunately for him and his team it would not be a winning start as the Brazilian team hit back thanks to a goal from Filipe Alewcon.

It was a solid start though as the game finished 1-1. As they walked off the pitch Sporting Armada appeared happy with the result.

The 2019 Lisbon Tournament was to be decided on a group basis with two groups each containing 7 teams. The teams finishing 1 st and 2 nd in each group would progress to the Cup competition. The teams finishing 3rd to 6th in each group would progress to the Plate competition. The team finishing 7th in each group would be eliminated.

The two teams on display in the second game of Group B would both harbor ambitions of reaching the Cup competition. Hellgarve Kraken's had previously won one of our tournaments in the Algarve whilst Indoorsoccer had reached a Cup Semi-Final before here in Lisbon.

It was another high quality encounter at the start of Group A as both teams could harbour realistic ambitions of qualifying for the Cup. This game was settled by a solitary goal. The goal went to Nelson Pinto who earned his team all 3 points.

The final fixture in the opening round of Group A was Spider Mans Ones versus Black Dog's Bald Club.

Spider Mans Ones were the most experienced team in the tournament today as they were making their 11th appearance in our tournaments. Contrasting with that experience was Black Dog's Bald Club who were about to step onto the field for the very first time in our tournaments.

It was the experienced team who struck first and there was no-one more experienced in Spider Mans colours than Ryan Stevens. He had been ever present in all 11 campaigns and was on the scoresheet again with goal number 42 in our tournaments.

Black Dog's Bald Club hit back though and claimed an equaliser through Rory Adams – the proud scorer of his team's first goal in Europe.

Spider Mans Ones hit the front again when Richard Eggleston made it 2-1. He was almost as experienced as Ryan Stevens, playing in his 10th tour. Eggleston was on target again to open up a two goal gap that Black Dog's Bald Club could not recover from. Final score, 3-1.
