The
first final of the day would see GBS Reds B versus
JNJ Belgium Fun Team. The two teams had qualified
for this stage by being ranked 17th and 18th respectively
in the group stages.
Following
the lunch break both teams had had a little break
before getting this match underway so would the
rest mean some stiffening of the joints or would
it mean a well earned rest for some tired lungs
and hearts?
Based
upon group performances there was very little
to choose between the teams but you would probably
make GBS Reds B favourites due to their superior
goal difference as they had scored two more goals
than their opponents and conceded 12 less than
their opposition from Belgium. Don't rule out
the Belgium Fun Team though who had a tough group
and anything could happen in a one off match.
With
the Final underway it was first blood to GBS Reds
B who got the scoring underway through Tomas Dvorak
who went on to score a hat-trick. The Wooden Spoon
Final proved to be one-way traffic and with further
goals from Fabio Lembo (2), Stefan Bertha, Mark
Smith and Richard Flynn there was no doubt which
team would be collecting the Wooden Spoon come
the presentation ceremony.
There
was no way back for the JNJ Belgium Fun Team as
GBS Reds B chalked up a record 8-0 Wooden Spoon
victory. Congratulations to GBS Reds B, commiserations
to JNJ Belgium Fun Team – we hope you all enjoyed
you tour!
