Last but not least, we come to Group C where the group began with JNJ Wuppertal A of Germany versus Slavoj Consumer of the Czech Republic. JNJ Wuppertal B had performed well in Group B but finished 4th – if the Wuppertal teams were selected upon ability on a hierarchical basis then the Group C teams could expect a strong German challenge. The Slavoj Consumer team were the 4th Czech team to sign up for the tournament and the only non-GBS Czech team participating.

There was quite a crowd assembled to watch this opening game and they witnessed a very close contest that could have gone either way. When the final whistle went there was only one goal in it and that goal went to Cristovao Mendes Fernandes for the travelling team.

It was not the start Slavoj Consumer would have wanted but they showed enough quality that they would be ok in this tournament. JNJ Wuppertal A will no doubt have been pleased to start their campaign with a win.

Match 2 in Group C saw loyal friends of eurofootballfives, GBS Reds A, kick off against JNJ High Wycombe Wanderers of England. GBS Reds A contained most of the players who have participated in 5 previous Prague tournaments and also toured to Amsterdam, Berlin and Krakow. These were the players who had earned GBS Reds two Cup Quarter-Final ties and two Plate Final wins. They had the experience against a JNJ High Wycombe Wanderers team on debut.

It was the debutants who emerged victorious with a goal in each half. Alex Woodger opened the scoring in the first half before Delroy Howell sealed the points after the break. It was a great start for the English team but a disappointment for the local host team.

The last two teams to get underway were Belgium Fun Team versus JNJ Russia B. Both teams had sister squads in the tournament and both teams had performed superbly thus far with the Belgium A Team winning Group B and JNJ Russia A winning Group A. These two teams had a lot to live up to.

The name of ‘Belgium Fun Team' may have suggested the ambitions and expectations of this squad may not have been too great but they were here to enjoy the wonderful city of Prague and the football tournament. Hopefully the result of this game did not dampen their enjoyment as they found themselves on the wrong end of a 5-0 result.

The Russians had started superbly with goals from Rustan Kecherukov, Maxim Zilberman (x2), Denis Dezhin and Alexey Gomer all scoring. JNJ Russia B were the early leaders of Group C.
