Round 3 began with the first ‘heavyweight' fixture of Group A as we had a top of the table clash between Team Zug and JNJ Croatia to look forward to. Both teams had 100% records going into the game and been scoring goals for fun with 13 between them to date. Team Zug were yet to concede a goal so JNJ Croatia would need their shooting boots on.

The crucial first goal of the game arrived in the opening period thanks to Patrik Godec's fourth goal of the tournament and JNJ Croatia held the early advantage. In the second half JNJ Croatia doubled their advantage as Neven Marinic made it 2-0. It was going to be difficult for Team Zug to come back from a two goal deficit and their task got even more difficult when Marinic made it 3-0.

The game was all but over but when Marko Celinic made it 4-0 the victory was complete. JNJ Croatia maintained their 100% record and led Group A on 9 points. Team Zug remained on 6 points but were still in a healthy position with two games to go.

We moved from the top of Group A to the foot of Group A for Game 8. Two teams looking to open their account were GBS Reds B and JNJ Pinewood and with games starting to run out now was the time they needed to change their fortunes around. Teams have qualified from 6-team groups for the Cup after 2 opening defeats before but never from 3 defeats.

A draw, whilst welcome to stop the rot, would not really be enough at this stage to catch those teams above them but we arrived at half-time all square at 1-1. Goals from Mark Smith (GBS Reds B) and Ellis Benn (JNJ Pinewood) meant the second half increased in importance and significance.

Who could wrestle the initiative from their opponents and claim the vital three points. Step forward JNJ Pinewood captain Matt Walker who made it 2-1. Things got even better for Pinewood when Simon Counter made it 3-1 and sealed the points. JNJ Pinewood were on 3 points in 4th place and chasing Team Zug above them. GBS Reds B were sadly rooted to the foot of the table still to get off the mark.

To complete Round 3 was JNJ Russia A versus GTSC. JNJ Russia A had the opportunity to join JNJ Croatia at the top of the table if they could find their third victory and maintain their 100% record thus far. GTSC were without a point but had pushed JNJ Croatia incredibly close in the last game and would need to pull out another strong performance in this game.

JNJ Russia A continued their form and strong start to the tournament as Sergey Ogorodnik bagged two goals in the opening period to lead 2-0 at half time. The visitors from Moscow were well on their way to 9 points and they strengthened their position further when Valery Melnikov made it 3-0. That completed the scoring and it was another win for the Russian team. GTSC were still to get off the mark and remained in joint 5th place with two games to go.
