The
Group B table had a two tier look to it with three
teams on 6 points and three teams on 0 points.
Game 7 of Group B would see the first meeting
between teams in the top 3 of the table as Hurting
Berlin were back in action against Rayford Athletic.
We had two teams with 100% records thus far –
one, maybe both, of those records would be extinct
at the end of this game.
We
asked at the start of Group B if Hurting Berlin
could recapture their 2012 Valencia Fives form
– so far the answer was a resounding yes! They
started well, got stronger in Round 2 and were
now absolutely flying. Rayford Athletic were clearly
no mugs with a good win last time out to their
name already. However, they were powerless to
stop the Hurting Berlin onslaught. 0-0 at kick-off
became 2-0 at half-time. 2-0 at half-time became
5-0 at full time and Hurting Berlin were making
a clear statement of intent.
There
were goals for Lorcan Bannon (2), Shane Murphy
(2) and Emmet Egan. Rayford Athletic were unable
to respond but they still had two games to go
in Group B to re-ignite their tournament challenge.
Before
we get on to the next game in Group B we just
have a bit of housekeeping and that is to note
the 3-0 walkover victory for Southgate County
over Scandittack FC as that fixture would have
been played here.
Tinniedad
& Tobacco had the chance to join Hurting Berlin
at the top of Group B if they could find a way
to see off the challenge of Fail Madrid. With
a win under their belts against Southgate County
followed by the walkover win they would be eager
to get playing again and earn their points on
the pitch. Fail Madrid had secured their first
goal of the day in Round 2 and were now looking
to register their first points of the day – they
had a difficult opponent to achieve this against
though.
Tinniedad
& Tobacco had never lost a game in normal
time in our tournaments and so would be favourites.
On the pitch though Tinniedad & Tobacco did
not have it all their own way and they had to
work very hard due to the diligence of Fail Madrid.
However, when Mike Wilkes opened the scoring for
Tinniedad & Tobacco it looked as if the game
was going as most onlookers would have thought.
There was to be no further addition to the score
in the opening period.
In
the second half Fail Madrid really took to their
task well and battled hard. The defence remained
strong and ensured Tinniedad & Tobacco would
not add to their goal and if they could just find
the net at the other end they'd have their first
point of the day. Alas, for Fail Madrid, it was
not to be on this occasion. They could take a
lot from a very good performance and maybe this
was the turning point in their fortunes today.
