Pink Flamingos A (Eng)

In 2012 eurofootballfives.com launched their first tournament in Germany – the Berlin Fives. 2015 saw this ever popular tournament reach its 4th annual edition and following wins for Rigford Seahawks (Eng), ABC United (Rom) and Hasanheide Hotspur (Ger) we had 18 teams assembled to do battle for glory in the German capital.

The first two challengers to get us underway in Group A on Pitch A this year would be Coole Wampe (Ger) versus Hangover 96 (Eng). Coole Wampe were on debut so we would shortly get our first glance at them. Hangover 96 were old hats in eurofootballfives.com competition though.

They are one of the longest-serving teams on our circuit having made their debut in the 2008 Premiership In…Portugal as Reading Royals. They finished 6th in the tournament on that day. They returned in the 2009 Prague Masters where they reached the Plate Semi-Finals before going out to eventual Plate winners AON Top Guns. A re-brand saw them compete as Wokingham FC at the 2011 Krakow Trophy where they finished 8th. Roll on to the 2013 Budapest Fives where they finished 4th in their 6 team group before a very narrow 1-0 defeat to BBFC2 in the Plate Quarter-Finals. They re-brand again for their 5th appearance at the Berlin Fives.

It was the debutants who started the brighter today as a goal in each half from Konstantin Kausch and then Yann Eryl wrapped up a 2-0 victory for the home team.

Game 2 of Group A was FC Auslander versus Tommie's Guns.

FC Auslander made their debut at the 2014 Berlin Fives and 12 months ago they struggled. Group D did not make pretty reading as they lost all 4 games albeit a few of them by narrow margins (2-1, 3-2 and 3-1) – only in one game did they really face heavy defeat and that was against the eventual Runners-Up. It meant they contested the Wooden Spoon playoff in what was arguably the game of the tournament from a spectator's point of view. A thrilling game was drawn 3-3 before they eventually lost 4-3 on Golden Goal. Captain Kevin O'Shea was missing through injury back then, he vowed to bring a stronger squad in 2015 and so it looked to be on the early evidence of today.

Tommie's Guns were also in action for a second time in eurofootballfives.com action (more on them anon) and they suffered a pre-tournament set-back as they were missing their own captain today (Joe Latimer being injured in last weekend's Mallorca Tournament). They also suffered a set-back with the tournament underway as goals from Christoph Darbouze and Luke Porter for FC Auslander outgunned (excuse the poor pun) Alex Meecham's goal for Tommie's Guns. Full-time, 2-1.

The final two teams in Group A were Coverton Road and Pink Flamingos A.

Coverton Road were making a poignant return to eurofootballfives.com action to commemorate and honour one of their colleagues and heroes. Coverton Road appeared at the 2011 Valencia Fives and 2013 Mallorca Fives. In Valencia they made it through to the Plate SF before bowing out. They were close to glory in Mallorca when they finished Runners-Up in the Plate competition after a narrow 1-0 loss to Son Gual (Spa). At the 2014 Budapest Fives, playing as Old Man Hortor's Revival, despite only conceding 4 in 5 games in a tough group they finished 6th after 2 draws and 3 defeats. Goal-scoring was their problem on that day and it proved again when they went out 4-0 to Contejus Hurricanes in the Trophy Quarter-Final.

Pink Flamingos were making their first appearance in eurofootballfives.com competition and it was a highly successful one at that. Jimmy Cochrane scored their first goal in our tournaments and they lead 1-0 at half-time. In the second half they doubled their lead through James Westlake before they put their opponents to the sword as Karl Gumbrell banged in a hat-trick to complete a fine 5-0 win.
