At the start of Round 3, we had a massive game – the biggest of Group A and arguably the tournament so far. It was Coole Wampe versus Pink Flamingos A – both teams had 100% records, both teams were yet to concede and the teams were only separated at the top of the table by the fact that Pink Flamingos A had outscored their opponents by 8 goals to 7 in the opening two rounds.

We expected a close contest by the two heavyweights in this group and early indications were that the winner of the tournament could well come from these teams. It was therefore a little surprising that we had such a one-sided encounter. Pink Flamingos really lay down a marker and a signal of intent as they dominated their opponents in the first half.

Joe Maskell was the man with the magic boots as he put the English team 1-0 up, then 2-0 up, then 3-0 up and forgive us if we're getting boring, 4-0 up. When James Westlake made it 5-0 this was turning into a thrashing and it was only half-time.

Things calmed down in the second half although Jimmy Cochrane added a sixth for Pink Flamingos A and Coole Wampe had a couple of moments to restore some pride as Dominik Felgar and Konstantin Kausch scored a consolation each. The damage had already been done in the first half though as Pink Flamingos A won 6-2.

Next up we had Tommie's Guns versus Coverton Road. At the start of Round 3 these teams were 6th and 4th in the table respectively and both teams needed the points to climb the table.

There has been a past eurofootballfives.com connection between these two teams as Tommie's Guns Joe Latimer was part of the Contejus Hurricanes team that defeated Coverton Road (playing as Old Man Hortor's Revival) 4-0 in the 2014 Budapest Fives Trophy Quarter-Finals. Contejus Hurricanes would go on to win the Trophy.

There was to be no repeat of the score with Joe Latimer's Tommie's Guns as it was all level at the break, 1-1. The goals incidentally came from Alex Meecham (Tommie's Guns) and Luke Hatfield (Coverton Road). In the second half there was to be a winning goal and cometh the hour, cometh the man and that man was Luke Materacki whose strike took all three points for Tommie's Guns.

It meant that Tommie's Guns climbed to fourth place with one fixture still to be played in Round 3.

That last fixture to be played was Hangover 96 versus FC Auslander. At kick-off these two teams knew the results from the other games in Round 3 and Hangover 96 knew they were now at the foot of the table and needed a positive result to start moving up the table.

FC Auslander were in 3rd position at the start of Round 3 and remained there at kick-off. With Coole Wampe losing to Pink Flamingos a win would see them rise to second place in the table which was some incentive but maybe also pressure. It did not go to plan in the early exchanges for FC Auslander as they slipped behind to a Sam Marshall goal.

FC Auslander having not earned a point in the 2014 group phase were vastly improved this year and were currently unbeaten with 4 points from 6. That unbeaten record was now seriously in danger. As the second half played out Hangover 96 held on to their 1-0 lead admirably – solid in defence and had chances to kill the game off. The second goal for Hangover 96 proved elusive but it didn't matter as a clean sheet for Chris Taylor helped earn all 3 points.

The result shot Hangover 96 up to fourth place. FC Auslander remained in third.
