We began Round 5 with so many possibilities on which teams would qualify for the Cup, Plate or Wooden Spoon – certainly too many to detail here. We began the home straight with Coole Wampe versus FC Auslander.

Coole Wampe were virtually guaranteed Cup qualification – a defeat here, a Tommie's Guns win and a swing in goal difference could see them slip to third but then 9 points would probably be enough to see them through as one of the two best third placed teams. A point would take away all doubt. A win combined with a Pink Flamingos A defeat and swing in goal difference meant topping Group A was still a possibility. An outside possibility but still a possibility.

As for FC Auslander they could reach 7 points and would then need to hope for a Tommie's Guns defeat to be sure of third and then wait and see if 7 points would see them into the Cup. Anything less than a win and they would be playing Plate football.

We reached the interval all square at 0-0. FC Auslander had seen their form in terms of results slide from win to draw to 1 goal defeat to 2 goal defeat but even against Pink Flamingos A they competed well and were doing so again here. You could argue their play merited more than the four points they had to show.

Their performance was good again here but they would also have no points to show for it as a Konstantin Kausch goal in the second half for Coole Wampe would win the game, 1-0. It was Konstantin Kausch's 7th goal of the tournament and he was right up there with Karl Gumbrell for the top goalscorer award.

Coole Wampe would indeed qualify for the Cup and FC Auslander would make the Plate.

Next up was Coverton Road versus Hangover 96. The teams currently resided in sixth and fifth positions respectively. Hangover 96 could potentially finish in 3rd position with 6 points if they won and Tommie's Guns lost heavily to Pink Flamingos A. At this stage 6 points would probably not be enough for Cup qualification so the Plate would most likely beckon. A draw would achieve the same result. A defeat would see them slip to 6th but with 3 points they would have to wait and see if they would be the best 6th placed team to make the Plate. Otherwise, they would be in the Wooden Spoon.

For Coverton Road, a defeat or draw would possibly mean the Wooden Spoon subject to the final result of SV Zoo in Group C who were also currently on 1 point. Coverton Road needed to better SV Zoo's result. A win would see them safely into the Plate in 5th position or 4th position (if they won by 5 or more).

Now we've bored you with the potential outcomes let's get to the game itself. With the game underway it was Hangover 96 who scored the opening goal but sadly for them it was at the wrong end and Coverton Road had the early lead. It was a lead they built on with Luke Hatfield making it 2-0 and Matt Benson finding the back of the net for 3-0.

In the second half Luke Hatfield took his tally for the day to four as Coverton Road moved 4-0 up. It was a fine way for them to finish Group A and secure their place in the Plate competition. Hangover 96 would join them if SV Zoo failed to win their final game in Group C.

The final thing to wrap up Group A was Pink Flamingos A versus Tommie's Guns. Pink Flamingos A were virtually assured of the Group A title – a draw would seal it on points but a win would see them do it with a 100% record. In truth, they could even afford a defeat as they had a +14 goal difference and Coole Wampe were +5 going into Round 5. So, unless something silly happened they were champions elect.

For Tommie's Guns, a win would see them go through to the Cup with 9 points either in 2nd place (should Coole Wampe lose with requisite swing in goal difference) or as one of the best third placed teams. A draw or defeat could still see them finish 3rd but the points tally would probably not be enough.

Tommie's Guns came into the game on a good run of form having lost their first two they had now won two on the spin. Pink Flamingos A were a different proposition though with four wins out of four but the two teams proved evenly matched and there was nothing to separate the teams at half-time.

Indeed there was to be only one goal in the game and that came in the second half and was scored by James Westlake of Pink Flamingos A. It ensured they would finish Group A as champions and with a maximum 15 points. As it turned out, Tommie's Guns would finish 3rd but go through to the Plate competition.
