We were down to our final 4 teams in the Plate competition with 2 teams representing England, 1 representing France and 1 representing the home nation, Spain.

The first Semi-Final would see Urbansport ‘22 taking on Pinkneys Green FC. Urbansport '22 had seen a mixed set of results today. They started off with 2 wins and looked like they would be one of the favourites to reach a third Cup Final. However, 2 defeats on the bounce derailed their campaign. A draw in their final game saw them miss out on the Cup. They were back on form with a 4-0 win in their QF win over Deportivo Dooradoyle.

Pinkneys Green had seen a steady uptick in form throughout the day. They struggled early on but they were now 3 games unbeaten and had some momentum coming into this tie. It's not uncommon in our tournaments for a team to get off to a slow start (particularly a travelling team who has enjoyed the local nightlife) and then power through to a Plate victory.

It looked like Pinkneys Green FC could be that team (although we couldn't comment on their Friday night out) as they forged a 1-0 lead thanks to Adam Pauffley. It was his third goal in two games. Urbansport '22 looked unsettled and worried all the time they were behind. That tension eased when Luis Perdouno made it 1-1. The striker added a second before half-time but Pinkneys Green FC were still very much in this.

After the break, Johnny Villegas increased the Urbansport '22 and that two goal cushion appeared to be a bridge too far for Pinkneys Green FC – psychologically at least on a hot day in Mallorca. Johiner Vasquez added a fourth for Urbansport '22 as they clinched their place in the final.

It was a great game of football and it was a shame we had to say farewell to Pinkneys Green FC. It was great to see them on tour and we hope they had a great a time in Mallorca.

The second Semi-Final was Los Froggies Del Patron versus Bayern Badonde. Both teams had an identical record in terms of results with 3 wins, 1 draw and 2 defeats so we were expecting a close match here. Bayern Badonde had lost 4-1 to Las Zacaranas earlier in the day and could well have been looking for revenge over their sister squad as well as a place in the Plate Final.

Los Froggies Del Patron had a mixed record in our tournaments in the knockout phase of our tournaments. On debut they went all the way to the Cup Final at the 2016 Lisbon Tournament. Since then it has been 2 defeats in the Quarters at the 2018 Riga Tournament (Cup) and the 2019 Budapest Fives (Plate). It was third time lucky in the Quarters today with a 2-1 win over AFC Blue Boys 1. Could they reach a second final?

It was Bayern Badonde though who got off to a flyer in this one. Alex Jacobs scored his second goal of the tournament and arguably the most important to give his team a lead. Charlie Courtney's second in as many games made it 2-0. The half-time whistle went and Los Froggies Del Patron had it all to do in the second half.

The next goal was clearly going to be vital. It was Pierre Lachaud who scored it to reduce the deficit to 2-1. There was a certain similarity to Bayern Badonde's QF when they went 2-0 up before conceding for 2-1. This time there was to be no further addition to the score as the Bayern Badonde defence held firm.

There was no way back for Los Forggies Del Patron who'd played well today but just missed out on the final by a narrow margin. Rumours are we will see them at the 2022 Barcelona Fives later this year for another crack at glory.
