The second final of the day (after the Wooden Spoon) would see Urbansport ‘22 versus Bayern Badonde. With seven games of football already under their belt the two teams would need to summon one last burst of energy to ensure they would be picking up winners and not runners-up medals in the presentation. Let's have a look at the two teams:

Urbansport '22 (Spa)

Won 4, drawn 1, lost 2. Goals scored 19, conceded 5.

Bayern Badonde (Eng)

Won 4, drawn 1, lost 2. Goals scored 13, conceded 16.

The two teams finished level on points in Group A with Urbansport '22 finishing above their opponents on goal difference. However, when they previously met it was Bayern Badonde who won 2-1. It would take a brave punter to predict the outcome of this game.

With the game underway it was a very even contested game and you could see why they had such similar records today. It was maybe no surprise to see the two teams change ends with the scores still level at 1-1. Chris Foster popped up to make it 1-0 to Bayern Badonde but the English side were not ahead for long. Urbansport ‘22's equalizer was almost instantaneous as Johiner Vasguez struck for the Spanish side.

The second half proved entertaining to watch but goals were conspicuous by their absence. 1-1 at half-time became 1-1 at full-time and we would need a penalty shoot-out to separate these two closely matched teams.

It was Bayern Badonde who would have the honour of taking the first penalty. The man tasked with the job for the English team was George Rod who made no mistake to make it 1-0. Johiner Vasquez equalised in normal time and he also equalized in the penalty shoot-out, 1-1. Paris Grappy was on target to make it 2-1 to Bayern Badonde. Bayern Badonde's position was even stronger when Luis Perdouno's penalty struck the post.

James Courtney had the chance to win it for Bayern Badonde but his penalty was saved by Javier Yauguen. Bayern Badonde must have had that sinking feeling when Damien Gomez levelled things up at 2-2.

This looked like it could run and run as Alex Jacobs (Bayern Badonde) and Ricardo Matovelle (Urbansport '22) both scored for 3-3. The scoring continued with Charlie Courtney for Bayern Badonde, 4-3. Next up was J Felipe Sanchez versus Ciaran Rogers in the Bayern goal. It was a battle Ciaran Rogers won by making a fine save to win it for his team and spark wild celebrations.

What a Plate Final! Please spare a thought for Urbansport ‘22 who came so close. They collected runners-up medals in the presentation.

Huge congratulations to the 2022 Mallorca Fives Plate winners…

….. Bayern Badonde!
