The 27th April 2013 was the curtain-raiser to our 2013 schedule and also marked eurofootballfives.com debut in Lisbon.

To kick us off we had Csabagyongye of Hungary playing England's FC Dad. The Hungarians made their debut in the 2011 Budapest Fives and were only seconds away from knocking Olympic Phil Babb out in the Cup Semi-Finals and preventing them retaining their (then) 100% record of 4 Cup wins. They then went on to compete in the 2011 Valencia Fives where they won Group A with a 100% record. It was a surprise to see them go out in the Cup Quarter Finals in a 9-goal thriller, 6-3 to Spanish side Rollert FS. In the 2012 Budapest Fives they played their knock-out football in the Plate competition and they went all the way to the final which they won 4-2.

It was therefore going to be a tough ask for FC Dad to open up their campaign. They had proved strong starters in our tournaments before with a 1-1 draw in the 2011 Prague Masters and a 2-1 win over eventual Runners-Up, Mestallaban (Ire), in the 2012 Valencia Fives.

They started solidly here and the two teams went into the break level at 0-0. In the second half it was FC Dad who made the breakthrough with two quickfire strikes from Graham Dodds and Stuart Leslie. Csabagyongye pulled a goal back through Levente Asztalos to make it 2-1 but time ran out and the game finished 2-1.

Next up was Brecklnd FC against Lads of Lisboa. Breckland FC played in the 2011 Barca Fives where they finished 3 rd in a 5-team group behind the 2008 Winners (Rapid Bosco Navas) and the eventual 2011 winners (Midshires FC). They went on to reach the Plate Semi-Finals and narrowly missed out on a debut Final.

Lads of Lisboa so were an unknown quantity to us before the game but they made a fine first impression on Group A and the Lisbon Tournament.

In the first half Anthony Allder (2), Darren Clarke and Graeme Kelly all found the net to open up a strong first half lead. A goal from Daniel Tickle gave some hope for Breckland FC but they had a mountain to climb from 4-1 down.

4-1 at half-time became 5-2 at full-time as Breckland FC grew into the game. Anthony Allder went on to claim his hat-trick for Lads of Lisboa though to quash any hopes of a Breckland comeback. Daniel Tickle claimed his second of the game for some personal consolation in defeat.

The final two teams to begin their challenge in Group A were the two local teams from Lisbon in the group – Funsport A and Futsal Pioes. Like all the 7 local teams competing from Lisbon, they were on debut in our first tournament in this fine city.

It was advantage Funsport A at the break as a solitary strike from Jorge Mendes separated the teams. In the second half Malakias Ramos equalised for Futsal Pioes and we had our first draw of the day. Points were shared and honours were even at 1-1.
