So,
who would meet Retainers Academy in the Trophy
Final? Would it be Rubidium Loftus Cheek or Rain
Dragons?
This
game would need penalties to decide matters. In
normal time Will Watkins put Rain Dragons 1-0
up but Fraser Harker's third goal of the tournament
equalized and necessitated the shoot-out.
It
was Rain Dragons who would take the first spot
kick and up stepped Will Watkins. Following his
goal in the match itself he had no problem putting
his team 1-0 up against Tom Newbigging in goal.
Rubidium Loftus Cheek responded in kind as their
scorer in the game, Fraser Harker, stepped up
first and duly levelled things up. Josh Curtis
Hale was next up for Rain Dragons as he made it
2-1. Sam Woods then slotted home, left-footed
to the bottom left corner for 2-2. Yulong Meng
sent Tom Newbigging the wrong way to make it 3-2.
The pressure was on Nick Roberts to take us into
sudden death. He struck the penalty well and Andy
Jeffries in goal for Rain Dragons got a touch
on it but couldn't prevent the goal, 3-3.
Tom
Care went high and down the middle to make it
4-3 to the Rain Dragons. Peter Durling sent Andy
Jeffries the wrong way for 4-4. Andy Jeffries
went from goalkeeper to goalscorer as he made
it 5-4. Tom Newbigging was injured all day so
was unable to take his spot-kick so Rubidium Loftus
Cheek players were now taking their spot-kicks
again. Fraser Harker converted to make it 5-5.
The Rain Dragons could now take a second penalty
each and Will Wakins scored for the second time
to make it 6-5.
Just
as we thought the shoot-out would never end we
had a winner. Andy Jeffries was the hero for Rain
Dragons. Sam Woods went bottom right but Jeffries
went the correct way and palmed the ball away
to safety.
It
was all over for Rubidium Loftus Cheek for this
year. They have hinted they will return to eurofootballfives.com
action next year for another crack at success.
We hope they do and wish them better luck with
injuries and flights.
