Game 6 of Group C was the big one. This could potentially be the game that decided who won the group. The two teams set to do battle was Expats FC Paris and LT United. It was France versus Lithuania. It was the top two in direct competition. It was two 100% records going head to head. The winner of this tie (if there was to be one) would almost certainly be assured a place in the Cup competition and would then require just 1 point to secure the title in their final game. A draw would see both teams creep that bit closer towards the Cup but still with work to do going into the final games.

Expats FC lead the way on goal difference largely due to their goalscoring prowess with 7 in 2 games. LT United weren't too shabby up front with 4 goals but were also excellent at the back. Tomas Urbanavicius was yet to concede a goal today.

The first half honours went to LT United. They opened up a 2-0 lead with Edgaras Buzas scoring for the third game running. The lead was doubled by Rolandas Buivydas – his first of the day.

After the break LT United extended that lead to 3-0 when Linas Vaiciukauskas also scored for the third game in a row. Expats FC Paris did manage to pull one back to make it 3-1 but it was too little too late on this occasion. Josh Earnshaw was the man to breach the Lithuanian defence for the first time today.

The next match on Pitch C in Group C was Dragons versus CTMB Pumas. Dragons came into the game on the back of a fine 7-0 victory and a second win in a row would afford them a share of second position in the table. It would also mean they could finish no worse than third position in the table.

In their way stood CTMB Pumas. They were yet to get off the mark but they had played the current top two teams so far. The fixtures had not been kind and scoreboard pressure can often effect teams psychologically. If they could put those two defeats behind them they could still climb up the table – second position was still mathematically possible.

The game followed a very similar pattern to the previous one. The “away” named team, in this case CTMB Pumas, opened up a 2-0 lead by half-time. Tom Farrar scored their first of the game before Thomas Coulter broke his personal duck for the day.

As with the previous game, the “away” named team then extended their lead to 3-0 in the second half. Joe Blackburn was the man credited with the goal. Steven Blight scored in the 7-0 demolition of Team Beefcake and he scored for the second game running to make it 3-1. Alas, for Dragons, it was to be a mere consolation.

Team Beefcake were the final team to play their third fixture. With two defeats to date they were 3 points adrift of the Plate qualification places. A win here would make it a three team tie in joint third position. Their opponents were formidable though – LT United.

The Lithuanian team were set to play their final group fixture. So far they had won all 3 with 7 goals scored and just the 1 conceded. Team Beefcake were yet to score and had conceded 12. The signs were ominous and as one fellow watching commented, this could be a case of how many. Harsh but hard to argue with based on results so far today.

LT United went about their business in ruthless fashion. Linas Vaiciukauskas in particular enjoyed himself in a first half in which he bagged a hat-trick. Karolis was also on target for the Lithuanians. The end of the first half saw a moment of jubilation for Team Beefcake though as David Wright scored their first of the tournament.

The second half kicked off with LT United 4-1 up and Team Beefcake a mountain to climb. Their task became even more difficult when Edgaras Buzas and then Mantis Bambalas extended that lead to 6-1. Team Beefcake were in the goals again though thanks to Rudrajoy “Rudge” Chakraborty. Final score, 6-2.

The win secured LT United as Group C champions – well done to them.

8 games completed, 2 to go. We now had our Group C winners confirmed. The race for second position and the second Cup qualification place was still very much alive. Expats FC Paris were very much in pole position. They currently had 3 points going into the final run of fixtures but they had two teams lurking in the wings on 3 points, and ready to pounce, should Expats FC Paris slip up.

One of those teams was Dragons. Not only could they take advantage of any slip up but it was within their power to inflict that slip up. Goal difference was so close that any form of victory would see Dragons climb above their opponents but they would then have to wait and see if that would be enough because CTMB Pumas would still have a game in hand.

A draw or victory for Expats FC Paris would end any debate though and secure second position for themselves. The two teams played out a very evenly contested match and we reached the half-time interval with the two teams locked together at 0-0. As things stood, this result was enough for Expats FC Paris. It would only take one goal to change the complexion of the tie.

CTMB Pumas were watching on and they also needed a win for Dragons to keep them in the hunt for second place. If Dragons won, CTMB Pumas would fancy their chances as their game in hand was against Team Beefcake.

In the end, just one goal would settle this fixture. Cometh the hour, cometh the man and that man was Michael Walne. His goal ensured Expats Paris FC would go through to the Cup. It also consigned Dragons and CTMB Pumas to the Plate.

We went into Game 10 of Group C with CTMB Pumas due to host Team Beefcake. The top two positions were settled. What else was at stake:

CTMB Pumas: They needed just a draw to finish third in the table. A defeat would probably see them finish fourth unless they got thrashed. Their goal difference was currently -1 compared to Team Beefcake's -16.

Team Beefcake: Defeat or a draw would see them finish bottom on points. A win would see three teams on 3 points. At the start of play CTMB Pumas were -1, Dragons were +2 (safely in the Plate) and Beefcake were -16 so Team Beefcake would have to win by 9 goals or more to move above their opponents.

We did get a win by 9 goals or more but Team Beefcake were on the receiving end. They found themselves 3-0 down at half-time and conceded a further 6 in the second half. There were goals for Thomas Coulter (3), Tom Farrar, Jason Ambrose-Jones, Alex Roberts, Ed Goggs (2) and Joe Blackburn. Every member of the squad on the scoresheet! A fine way to end the group – for them anyway.
