For
the fourteenth time in eurofootballfives.com
history we had a Trophy competition to supplement
our traditional Cup and Plate competitions.
This was the ninth time we had a 24-team event
in addition to 25-team (x3) and 32-team (x2)
events. This was a great opportunity for the
teams finishing 5th and 6th in the morning group
phase to turn their fortunes around and walk
away with a trophy.
The
Rain Dragons would have a bye as Michael Collins
withdrew on the eve of the tournament. They
would be joined by Retainers Academy and Rubidium
Loftus Cheek due to 2 more withdrawals (The
Funky Shepherds, TomTom United) at the end of
the group phase. That left us with Team Beefcake
versus Wonder Vision.
Following
a difficult morning in terms of results, Wonder
Vision transformed their performance here. They
were yet to score in the tournament today but
they went goal crazy against Team Beefcake.
James Elderton scored their first of the day.
Calum Millar soon made it 2-0. It wasn't long
before Joe Thomas made it 3-0. Chris Fajer extended
the lead to 4-0. Calum Millar and James Elderton
then each scored their second of the game to
make it 6-0.
It
was clear that Wonder Vision were heading through
to the next round but it was Team Beefcake who
had the final say. Danny Ryan scored arguably
the goal of the tournament with a right foot
volley which was drilled low into the bottom
corner. Some sceptics thought he was actually
trying to backheel – or are they just rumours?
