We
were down to our final 4 teams in the Plate competition.
The first Semi-Final would see Pass To Russ FC
versus CTMB Pumas. This promised to be a high
quality encounter.
Both
teams were making their debut in our tournaments
and, as such, were breaking new ground with every
new step they took in this tournament. They were
now just one game away from a European final.
The
two teams had similar records so far. Pass To
Russ FC had 4 wins from 6 games with 17 goals
scored and 8 conceded. CTMB Pumas had 3 wins from
5 games with 18 goals scored and 9 conceded.
Despite
the similar records, CTMB Pumas got off to an
absolute flyer and never looked back. Tom Farrar
scored his seventh of the day to put his side
1-0 up. Tom Coulter wasn't far behind in the scoring
stakes as his sixth of the day made it 2-0. The
two Tom's then added another goal each to make
it 4-0. Tom Farrar then completed his second hat-trick
in as many games to make it 5-0 before adding
another goal for good measure. Final score, 6-0.
It
was farewell to Pass To Russ FC for the day but
we thank them for attending the tournament and
the post-event social. It was great to meet you
all.
The
second Semi-Final was Jackson's Five versus Dragons.
Who could join CTMB Pumas in the Plate Final?
There
was nothing to separate these two teams on the
field of play as we arrived at half-time locked
together at 0-0. The second half came and went
with the two teams still level at 0-0. A penalty
shoot-out would decide this one.
Jackson's
Five had just emerged from their first shoot-out
in our tournaments in the previous round. Naturally,
they were successful (3-2) and a repeat would
do them just fine.
Things
looked good after the first round of penalties
as Dragon's Aled Williams hit the post. Mauro
Hernandez who scored 2 penalties in the Quarter-Final
was on target again as Jackson's Five lead 1-0.
Both teams converted their second penalty – Steven
Blight for Dragons, Will Sambrook for Jackson's
Five. The next round of penalties saw Dragons
pull level as Ned Pendleton scored whilst Robbie
Petch saw his penalty saved by Craig Dobson.
We
were into sudden death and Neil Stoodley scored
for Dragons. Rich Jackson put his miss behind
him in the Quarters to keep his team in this Semi-Final.
The fifth round of spot-kicks proved decisive.
Ben Gregory was the hero – he scored his penalty
and made the save from Paul Taylor as Jackson's
Five went through 4-3 on penalties.
