Round 2 started with AC Mazi 1996 versus Black Sheep. Both teams had started off with a win in their opening game.

AC Mazi 1996 were making their first appearance in our tournaments and although we were yet to see them in action they were expected to do well. They came to the tournament with quite a reputation as they won a national Greek amateur tournament to be here. They started off living up to that reputation with a 2-0 win over Los Portugalitos.

The Greek side appeared to be progressing through the gears in Round 2 as they cranked up the performance. Marios Ntatis set the tone for the game with two early goals before Thanasaj Laerto made it 3-0. There were two more goals for Marios Ntatis and a second of the game for Thanasaj Laerto.

Black Sheep would have the final word though as they grabbed a consolation thanks to Asbjorn Brandt-Pedersen. Final score, 6-1.

Round 2 continued with the match on Pitch D which was Wonder Vision versus Los Portugalitos. Both of these teams had lost their opening fixture and were looking to bounce back quickly.

Los Portugalitos made their debut at the 2015 Algarve Open playing as Futeboladas and surged to victory. They finished 2nd in their group with 4 wins out of 5 to RC Lens. They won a 4-3 thriller in the Cup Quarter-Finals against Algarve Stars before a 3-1 win over Why Always Morris in the Semi-Final. They then met RC Lens again in the Cup Final. RC Lens won the group game (2-0) but Futeboladas won the game that really mattered (3-0) to collect the title.

In 2016, they played as The Avengers and recorded 2 wins and 2 losses in Group A which saw them finish in third position. They would progress to the Plate competition which was played in a group format. They recorded 2 wins, 1 draw and a defeat to finish 3 rd in the Plate.

Earlier in 2018, they competed for a third time at the 2018 Algarve Open as FC Gymnasium. From their 7 group games they won 3, drew 2 and lost 2. They finished on 11 points and in third place which meant Cup qualification. They then encountered 3x eurofootballfives.com winners, L'Albiceleste of France. They were defeated 3-0. We are delighted to see them for their first tournament outside of Portugal.

Here in Barcelona they got their campaign up and running as two goals from Honorato Marques saw off the Wonder Vision challenge.

Game 6 of 15 in Group D was to be New Wave Funk (Eng) versus Rain Dragons (Eng).

The Rain Dragons debuted at the 2014 Amsterdam Fives when they had two teams under the names of Big Dogs and Damn Big Dogs. They both played in Group B and finished 2nd and 3rd with Big Dogs missing out on winning the group only on goal difference. Both teams headed out in the Quarter-Finals with Damn Big Dogs succumbing to the eventual champions Athletico Do Hollande and the Big Dogs missing out to Return of the Dancing Horses III.

They returned to Amsterdam as The Rain Dragons in 2015. A successful group phase saw them finish second in Group B with 3 wins and 2 draws in 6 games. The tournament was then curtailed by Storm Zejko.

2016 saw them visit the Amsterdam event for a third time. They began well with a 1-0 win over We Pay People but then struggled with a small squad and some injuries. Three successive defeats meant they finished 5th to go through to the Plate competition. Their form improved in the knock-out phase with 5-2 wins in the Quarter-Finals over Mixed Up and Semi-Finals over Wizards of WhatsApp. With 3 wins over Dutch opposition they would fancy their chances of a fourth over Team Koopman in the Plate Final. The game finished 4-4 and penalties would decide the Plate title. The shoot-out was one of epic proportions finishing 10-9. Sadly for the Rain Dragons they were on the wrong end of the result.

In 2017 they switched Amsterdam for Budapest. It turned out they drew a tough group with the eventual winners, the 2016 Krakow Trophy winners and others with a strong record in our events. They performed well with 2 wins and 2 draws from their 5 games and finished fourth on goal difference. They qualified for the Plate and saw off Seagulls FC in the Quarters before going out to Budapest Celtic Greens in the Semis.

Rain Dragons collected a defeat in their first game here in Barcelona and, sadly for them, it was to be another defeat in their second game too. New Wave Funk were flying after a 4-0 opening win. Goals from Barney Wilde and Nick Moore helped them make it 2 wins out of 2 – they were joint top.
