Group C began with Bafta Boys versus Parry St Germain. Bafta Boys made their debut in Germany last June. It was an impressive debut as they won their group with 4 wins and 1 draw. A win on penalties against 2007 Krakow Trophy champions, Northern Monkeys, followed in the Quarter-Finals before an exit on penalties to Shrewsbury Townsend in the Semi-Finals. They also boasted the tournament's top goalscorer Joe Bardwell who scored 14 goals on the day.

Parry St Germain make their 4th eurofootballfives.com appearance and 2nd Algarve Open appearance after a debut in the October 2007 Prague Trophy. Back in Prague they entered 3 teams under the names of England Lions, Brazil United and We Are Messi. The latter two squads reaching the Plate and Cup Semi-Finals respectively. They followed this up with 2 squads at the 2011 Barcelona Fives under the names of Preston Youth and Preston OAPs. The OAPs won their 5-team group (which included 2009 winners Rapid Bosco Navas) before a Quarter-Final defeat to eventual winners Equipo A of Spain whilst the Youth team reached the Plate Semi-Finals. Last year in the Algarve they finished in their group behind the eventual Runners-Up before going out on penalties in the Quarter-Finals to Water Boy of Portugal.

It was a tough opening game and honours were even in a 0-0 draw.

Bede FC were in action next when they took on Chateau Bravado Old Boys. Bede FC made their debut in the 2011 Barcelona Fives and picked up a first European victory with a 2-1 victory over eventual Plate Winners, Bristol Bridge. Other results did not quite go their way and did not reward their performances as they were unlucky to finish 5th on goal difference – going through to the Wooden Spoon Semi-Finals going down to Stamford AC. They played in the 2012 Algarve Open finishing 4th in their group before a narrow 2-1 exit in the Plate Quarter-Finals to Goals Aloud of Wales.

Chateau Bravado Old Boys were making their debut and with the game underway it was they who started the quicker. Curtis Buck scored their first goal in Europe and it wasn't long before Ian Blades made it 2-0 and they were on their way to their first win in Europe. It was 2-0 at half-time and 3-0 at full-time as Blades added a second. It was a great start for them.

The next game in Group C was an all-Portuguese affair between two teams making their debut so it's difficult to preview the game in too much detail. However, our local expert on Portuguese amateur football suspected that Sao Pedro were the strongest of the Portuguese teams in the tournament. We would see if he was right.

Joao Lopes' early goal helped validate this opinion by giving Sao Pedro a 1-0 first half lead. Our local expert avoided egg on his face as Sao Pedro proved him right a second time (Oscar Teixeira) and a third time (Joao Lopes again). The game finished 3-0 and it was a great start for them.
