Let Us Win or Elsie (Eng)

We began Round 4 with Sergio Cristina versus CFC as Portugal met France. CFC had played very well so far but there 3 wins had come against the teams in 4th, 5th and 6th place. This was their first real test against another team in the top half of the table.

Sergio Cristina were 3 points behind the league leaders but could join them with victory here. They lost 2-0 to FC Radbroke in their other top of the table clash but fared better in this game. There was very little to separate the two teams and when the full-time whistle blew the scorers had been untroubled and we ended all square at 0-0.

The point was certainly more valuable for CFC as they moved onto 10 points and maintained the 3 point gap over their opposition. The game was notable for the fact that French goalkeeper Clement Benard had kept his fourth successive clean sheet.

The above draw created a window of opportunity for FC Radbroke who could move level with CFC if they could win their fourth game. They were up against Hangover 96 who were looking for their first points of the day.

On paper it looked a very presentable fixture for FC Radbroke but they were made to work incredibly hard by a spirited Hangover 96 performance. It was a great recovery from Hangover 96 who had lost 5-0 in their last game and were looking to put that behind them in style.

At half-time it was 0-0 and in the context of the group FC Radbroke could ill afford to drop points with CFC and Sergio Cristina so close in the table. A draw would be a great result for Hangover 96 and give them confidence going into the last Round of games to potentially reach the Plate.

They would not get the draw though as FC Radbroke stepped it up in the second half and did just enough to win by the odd goal in three, 2-1. For Hangover 96 there was a second goal of the tournament for Anthony Connolly. For FC Radbroke there was a first goal of the day for captain Mark Watkins and then the decisive strike from Mike Brandon (6 goals for him, scored in all 4 games). FC Radbroke joined CFC at the top of Group A but were in 2nd position on goal difference.

West Central FC could still qualify for the Cup with two games to go but they had to win their next game to realistically stand a chance. They were up against Let Us Win or Elsie who were probably looking at the Plate and a win here would secure that.

Group A had been a group of second half goals predominantly but all the goalscoring action in this game came in the opening period. West Central FC scored through Adil Hussain and Rajan Johal (2nd of the day for him) to outgun Paul Roberts goal for Let Us Win or Elsie. With no addition to the score after the break West Central FC had bagged the win they needed and if they grab another win in the next game their title hopes were still alive. For Let Us Win or Elsie it was a result that kept them in 5th position.
