Foot 130 A (Fra)

It was Cup Final time in Prague. After 35 games of football we came down to the most important of them all. Game 36, the showpiece match of the Open Age section that would determine the 2024 Prague Fives champions. Who would be celebrating at the presentation in just under an hour's time?

This is how we lined-up:

Foot 130 A (Fra)

Best appearance to date: 2023 Amsterdam Fives Winners

Record today: Played 6, Won 5, Drawn 1, Lost 0.

Goal difference today: 35-12

Current unbeaten run: 13 games (dating back to last year)

Today's top goalscorer: Rodrigue Antikossie (13)

Clean sheets: 0

Mitre FC A (Eng)

Best appearance to date: 2023 Barcelona Fives Plate Winners

Record today: Played 6, Won 4, Drawn 1, Lost 1.

Goal difference today: 22-13

Current unbeaten run: 1 games.

Today's top goalscorer: Sam Pagano (14)

Clean sheets: 1

This promised to be a fascinating game as statistically everything pointed towards a French win – they were unbeaten, most goals scored, best goal difference, had previous experience of a Cup win, were on form with a convincing semi-final win etc. However, Mitre FC A had proved they could match their opponents by playing out a thrilling 4-4 draw with Foot 130 A in the group phase. This game was certainly no foregone conclusion.

As mentioned in the Semi-Final section, Foot 130 A were bidding to become only the 7 th team to win their opening two tournaments with us. Mitre FC A were also gunning for a place in the history books as one of a select band of teams who boasted both a Cup win and a Plate win on their CV. There were currently 12 teams on this list (which included FC Mahou who were in the Veterans section today).

The stage was set, the teams were ready. The game itself was played with a great atmosphere as the other teams all assembled pitch-side to see who would be celebrating glory at full-time. The game ebbed and flowed, as it did in the group phase, with both teams trying to attack. Both teams created chances and goals were aplenty as the game swung from end to end.

It was Rodrigue Atikossie who got Foot 130 A off to the perfect start as the French team went 1-0 up. 1-0 became 2-0 when Thibault Margottat doubled the lead. Margottat had not scored in the group phase but now had goals in the Semi-Final and Final. Foot 130 A knew a two goal lead might not be enough as they were pegged back from 3-1 up earlier in the day. As if to underline this Sam Pagano reduced the deficit to 2-1. An interesting sub-plot in this Cup Final was the battle for top scorer as Sam Pagano moved to the top of the charts on 15. Rodrigue Atikossie joined him on 15 as he restored the two goal lead at 3-1. Maybe the clinching goal came from Antoine Borrel at 4-1. Adam Smith cut the lead to 4-2 but when Borrell made it 5-2 it was truly over.

The battle for the golden boot finished level at 15 goals. An incredible achievement for both Sam Pagano and Rodrigue Atikossie. It was perhaps fitting that the two players shared the honours as it would have been tough on either to miss out with such a fantastic haul.

Our commiserations go to Mitre FC A who were runners-up on this occasion but it had been a fantastic day's performance from them. It was now two European finals in two tours and they'd progressed from the Plate to the Cup. There was more to come from them for sure.

Our congratulations go to Foot 130 on a historic moment by winning back-to-back titles. Any title win is a fantastic achievement but to win two on the bounce is superb. They became only the 7th team to win their first two eurofootballfives.com appearances (also Olympic Phil Babb, Athletico Do Hollande, Skidmarks, ABC United, Big Time Krakow, Norfolk N Chance). Could they complete a hat-trick next time out?

If they could, they'd be only the second team to do so after Olympic Phil Babb who won their first 4 events with us. That's for the future though. For now, they had a Prague title to celebrate and no doubt they would celebrate in style just as they had won this tournament in style!
