So, onto Round 5 we go and still plenty to play for in Group A. We turned our attentions to the top of the table first where the equation for Cup qualification was two teams from three with the third assured of a place in the Plate competition as a consolation. Two of those three teams would meet face to face in the form of Fylde FC Old Boys and Foot 130 A.

Foot 130 were currently top of the table on goal difference and “only” needed to avoid defeat to be sure of a place in the Cup. A win would potentially see them crowned Group A winners. Fylde FC Old Boys were a point behind their opponents and also Mitre FC A. A defeat would see them miss out on the Cup. A draw would only be enough if Mitre FC A lost and there was a swing in goal difference. Realistically, Fylde FC Old Boys needed a victory. It was going to be a tough ask against a team unbeaten in Fives tournaments with us.

When Foot 130 A opened the scoring through Antoine Borrel the task for Fylde FC Old Boys got that bit more difficult. Antoine Borrel's fifth of the tournament made it 2-0 and it was a mountain to climb for the English team. That mountain became Everest when Rodrigue Antikossie's 11 th of the tournament realistically put the Cup out of reach of Fylde. A Stuart Rowland gave a brief flicker of hope at 3-1 but time was against them. Fylde Old Boys FC had played well this morning, would finish third and be a team to watch in the Plate.

Congratulations to Foot 130 A who had qualified for the Cup but whether they had done enough to win the group would depend upon Mitre FC A.

We now turned our attention to the other end of the table as 5th placed met 6th place with FCRK entertaining Spider Mans & Eagle. FCRK knew this would be their last game and they would love to go out on a high. Spider Mans & Eagle would hope to continue with their tournament and only a win would be good enough. They would also need Moles Salah B to lose their final game. In addition, they'd need a swing in goal difference. Moles Salah B were -2 whilst Spider Mans were -10. Spider Mans needed to win and win big.

Spider Mans & Eagle got off to the perfect start with Jamie Andrews on target. Liam Angel's second of the day doubled the lead before Richard Eggleston was on target for number 3. Spider Mans & Eagle were doing what was required but they were pegged back by a Gukchol Jun goal. For all FCRK's struggles they had scored in 4 out of 5 games and showed some potential for the future.

Spider Mans & Eagle restored the three goal cushion when Ryan Stevens made it 4-1. Ryan Stevens has close to 50 goals in eurofootballfives.com competition but this was his first of the day. It didn't take him long to add to his tally as he completed a hat-trick to take the score to 6-1. Spider Mans & Eagle had done what they needed to do – would it be enough?

The 15th game of Group A was the biggest game of Group A to date with repercussions at both the top and bottom of the table. At the top of the table we knew that Foot 130 A had qualified for the Cup in first with Fylde FC Old Boys going to the Plate in third. Mitre FC A were currently in second place 3 points off the lead. With a big enough win they could join Foot 130 A on 13 points and climb above them into first place. Foot 130 A were on +15. Mitre FC were currently on +11 but would need a 5 goal win to go above their rivals as Foot 130 A had scored more than Mitre FC A at present.

Moles Salah B could finish no higher than fourth but needed a result to clinch that position and go through to the Plate. Spider Mans & Eagle had joined them on four points so a draw or better would be good enough. If Moles Salah B were to lose the game then goal difference would come into play. Spider Mans were on -5 whereas Moles Salah B were -2 at the start of play so they would be OK if they lost by 2 or less. If they lost by 3 it would come down to goals scored and currently Spider Mans had scored 13 compared with Moles Salah B's 11. Lose by 4 or more and it would be elimination for Moles Salah B.

With the game underway those domesday scenarios looked redundant for Moles Salah B as Henry Myers put them 1-0 up. It got even better when Myers doubled his tally for the game and his team's lead to 2-0. We'd seen a number of games in Group A turned on their heads so this was not over yet especially given the high level of opposition. Sam Pagano was in the goals again as Mitre FC A embarked on a comeback. That comeback was snuffed out when Jack Barr extended the Moles Salah lead to 3-1. 3-1 became 4-1 as Jack Barr scored again to complete an impressive victory for the men in black and orange.

Congratulations to Moles Salah B for clinching their place in the Plate and knocking out Spider Mans in the process. Congratulations also to Mitre FC A who qualified for the Cup.
