So,
who would take their place in the Final from
the second Semi-Final? The two teams set to
do battle were Foot 130 A (Fra) and Mardi Southgate
Gras (Eng).
Since
our first tournaments in 2007, just six teams
had won their first two tournaments with us.
They were;
Olympic
Phil Babb (Eng)
Athletico
Do Hollande (Ned)
Skidmarks
(Eng)
ABC
United (Rom)
Big
Time Krakow (Pol)
Norfolk
N Chance (Eng)
Foot
130 could add their name to that list following
their victory at the 2023 Amsterdam Fives last
year. They were the number 1 ranked team from
the group phase with the best goal difference
and most goals scored. It would therefore represent
quite a task for Mardi Southgate Gras. The Southgate
team were competing in the Cup at our tournaments
for the first time since the 2017 Mallorca Veterans
and, in the Open Age, since the 2015 Berlin
Fives. It had been a brilliant performance so
far but this was their toughest task yet.
The
statistical favourites, Foot 130 A, took the
lead with a goal from Rodrigue Atikossie who
also added a second. Basile de Fontenay made
it 3-0 and Antoine Borrel scored for 4-0. There
was brief respite for Mardi Southgate Gras when
Jack Reed reduced the lead to 4-1. He'd scored
his team's last 3 goals in the competition.
Antoine Borrel was back on the scoresheet to
make it 5-1. Basile de Fontenay added a couple
more to make it 7-1 with his hat-trick goal.
Thibault Margottat and Billy Falola then each
scored to make it 9-1. Those goals meant that
every single player in the Foot 130 A had now
scored today. A true team performance.
It
was a chastening defeat for Mardi Southgate
Gras and one that was not representative of
their performance overall on the day. Foot 130
A marched on!
