We kicked off in Group B with 6 more teams beginning their campaigns at the 2024 Prague Fives and hoping to add their name to the list of Prague title winners. When we began Group A we had a fixture that boasted 17 previous eurofootballfives.com appearances. Group B began in a similar vein when The Shirker's Rest (formerly FC Dad) met Mardi Southgate Gras (Southgate County). These two teams had 19 previous appearances between them! We are very lucky to have such loyal teams who support us each year and we thank every one of them. It's always great to see the guys on the fields and in the bars of Europe each summer.

We'll preview each team in more detail as we proceed with this report in order to do their history justice. The Shirker's Rest were travelling with a smaller squad than normal and, as a result, would have their work cut out for them on what was a hot day in the Czech capital. Mardi Southgate Gras would also need to go to the well of energy reserves as they were competing on two fronts in the Open Age competition and the Veterans competition with some players on the squad list for both events (players can play in Open Age and Veterans as they are considered separate tournaments).

These two teams paths had crossed once before – at the 2022 Lisbon Tournament where FC Shark (sister squad of FC Dad) met Southgate Rascals which resulted in a 2-1 win for FC Shark. Calum Jones and Luke Burnett on target for FC Shark, Cameron Wallis on target for Southgate Rascals. Luke Burnett and Cameron Wallis both featured in this game although neither would be on the scoresheet in this fixture. Today, it was Chris Breen who gave The Shirker's Rest the lead before Luke Kelly equalized for Mardi Southgate Gras. As in Lisbon two years ago this match would finish 2-1 but this time in the favour of Southgate as Luke Kelly's second of the game proved to be the match-winner.

Match 2 in Group B saw Mitre FC B versus Moles Salah A. Mitre FC debuted in our events last year at the 2023 Barcelona Fives. The B team began well with a 2-1 win over Dumpling CF and a 2-0 victory over Mardons FC. The 100% record was ended by Bjorn Helge Riise's Pieces, 1-0. They then lost 2-1 to Barrymoore's Swimming Club, 3-0 to Substandard Liege and 2-0 to Club Esportiu Llefia. It meant they finished in fifth position of 7 teams but momentum was certainly against them at that stage. In the Plate Quarter-Finals they met John Arne Riise's Pieces but exited the competition with a narrow 1-0 loss.

Mitre FC B also got off to a good start in this game and it was they who took the lead as Mohammed Miah scored their first goal of the tournament. It would not be enough to earn all three points though as they were pegged back. Finn O'Hickey was the man on target for the Moles Salah A team as they levelled up the game at 1-1. There was to be no further addition to the score and the teams would need to settle for a point each. Only time would tell if this was a point gained or two points lost.

The next two teams to get underway in Round 1 were due to be Foot 130 B and BP Hatters. However, unfortunately the BP Hatters had their flight cancelled on Friday evening and were unable to source another flight in time for kick-off on the Saturday of the tournament.

It meant Foot 130 B (and all subsequent opponents of BP Hatters) would earn a 3-0 walkover win. We can only apologise to all teams in Group B who would have 1 game less than planned.
